Anyone going to Finch / Chicago Medical School?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Foxy, you're right. i'm wrong in comparing Whackegan to LA or to SD. but it still doesn't mean that i can help it. i like the big city amenities. and small-town charm is great...except in Waukegan, there are NONE!
but still. i think it's human nature to complain, and bitch-and-moan. so i just like to execise my rights.

(dude....i really need to proof-read or something. or learn how to spell and stuff).

Who is this FU...CMS guy? I'm gonna be a 2nd year at Finch...it's not that bad.

whatever, Wayley! you are the ring-leader of us all!

who is the that got Waukegan Manic Depressive Syndrome and had problems even gettin outta bed? and refused to hang out with us, go out, go downtown, (or even go to class!

who complains that there is no good chinese food (and rightly so), in Illinois?

who is the soft, westcoast wuss...that bought about 80 jackets? and all those beanies, hats, and earmuffs?? (though that red headband/earmuff combo was tight as hell). who is afraid to drive his GPS-mobile in the snow and rain???

who's the one that lost our IM basketball championship for us?????

hahaha. but really tho'. it's not that bad. especially if people like Wayley and the Wallflowers are your friends....b/c hey...misery loves company. :wink:

This is kind of random, but I got a PM from a 4th year at CMS (who just graduated) a while ago and I wanted to post it here for everyone to see cuz it was nice :)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello!
Congratulations on your acceptance. It does seem like a lot of people dump on the school. I've also overheard our student tourguides and it sounds like some of them are delivering a eulogy rather than a tour. But I am about to graduate from cms and having gone through everything from orientation to match I can honestly say that I am extremely happy with my education. I am just finishing a month-long surgery elective in South Africa at a hospital in Soweto. The people here say that I must be amazed by the amount of trauma I have seen this month, but frankly there was a higher volume of cases (also more critical) with a faster pace in my rotations at Cook County and Mt. Sinai Hospitals. The clinical experience is outstanding at cms. The first 2 years in North Chicago are admittedly dull, but then everyone moves to the city and a fun time is had by all.
Anyway, I thought you might be interested in this year's match results: <a href="http://www.finchcms.edu/osa/Resources/2002mr.htm" target="_blank">http://www.finchcms.edu/osa/Resources/2002mr.htm</a>
To answer the questions...I don't know if anything has changed, but there is PBL. When I went through, we picked one or two classes to do it for and we met in small groups to discuss cases in addition to attending lecture. There is an A, B, C, F system for most of the required courses. Perhaps that does make it more competitive, but the program directors with whom I interviewed this year said they were pleased to see an actual GPA. Anyway, please write if you have any questions. And welcome!
I think most graduates seem to be content with thigns there. I mean hey, if you're graduating and going to a great residency in the end, what more can you ask for of your med school? I also think for many the time away from Whackegan and closer to the city allows for a change in attitude. I always seem to hear good things about rotations. I think the biggest gripes have to do with the location of the first two years. I dunno about what that 4th year wrote about PBLs...we had one in Biochem this past year and it was SOO POORLY run. I think maybe it's somethign they're trying to slowly integrate but I know it's run much better at other schools. Maybe it's done more in the 2nd year? I dunno.
Yeah FU Ive also been booted from the Lake Bluff place before. I got in once or twice on the weekend to play some bball but then once we went on Tues afternoon and got the boot because we weren't residents. We were told to come back at night for the adult free court or something like that. We kind of thought the person may have been anti-Asia because in my group were me (a mild mannered Indian), 2 phillipinos, and a persian. The persian got their first and got on, then the rest of us arrived 5 min later and we all were then given the boot. Go figure...hehe.
The Ikea is in Schaumburg kind of nearer to the city...it's about a 45 min drive. The Gurnee theater is nice, but pricey, but there's another as FU said in Waukegan that's $4 but is really ghetto and dirty. I went there once and the movie times were shown in the ticket window written in marker on a piece of paper. Haha. A little farther away there's an IMAX theater (past Vernon Hills)...it's really nice but a longer drive, and as FU said, time does get truncated in med school. You reach a point where you feel you have time for nothing (at least I did). Gurnee and Vernon Hills are the two shopping areas with lots of sit down restaurants (TGI, UNOs, etc). Both are in opposite directions from the school, about 15 min drive away Id say. There's a Barnes and Nobles in Vernon Hills in the mall that's a cool study place...it's a good change of pace from the library.
I'll echo FU's words about the restaurants. It's aggravating how early they all close too...especially the Starbucks and both Subways which close at 8. I mean granted the place is a suburb, but there's a school there!!! You'd think they'd wany to accomdate us a little. Good ol Whackegan...haha.
FU...if we had an NCAA team that'd be soo awesome. I think we could hang if we played maybe Lake Forest high school though, rather than Northwestern...lol. Concerts would be cool too....MTV Campus Invastion at CMS!! That'd make more money for the school and then maybe they'd knock the tuition down (yeah right). I hate those geese though...they cause that back lot to stink when it's warm and they crap everywhere. I really hope that weightroom is sweet though.
As for the 8 am classes...I dunno that's just what Id been hearing from some people. Ha...I like how the school has kept it's own students so in the dark on this new bldg. I dont think even the administration truly knows what the capabilities of this thing will be.
yeah. FU/CMS is not ~that~ bad. an MD is an MD. and true dat, you get to live downtown the last two years, and the hospitals in Chicago are dope. and since so many kids are from california, getting a residency back in california is possible, since CMS has a name at most hospitals.
the grading at CMS is whatever to me. it's the same as HighHonors, Honors, Pass, LowPass, etc. and it's not like grades matter unless you're AOA, or if you want to go into surger, derm, or like radiology. and since we all want "to help people", go into "primary care", and like....uh, "serve the underserved", that doesn't really matter!
PBL's SUCK! i agree with Desi. the ones in Biochem was whack, and i heard the ones for MCB were whack too. all my other med school friends think they are lame, too. it's just extra work, and no one really cares about the "integration" of it all. i'd rather someone just give me a handout and let me read it....instead of me doing minimal "research". i can take ICM and Pathology later, thank you.
(Desi....i think Lake Bluff is supposed to be "cool" now. Doug G talked to them about CMS kids using the gym. i only had a problem once, with a hs gurl that charged me $5 to play on open-gym night. otherwise...i've even shot around when all the kindergarten/daycare kids were running. i thought fo' sure that the teachers would kick me out).
oh yeah....two words: OUTLET Malls! hahah. Gurnee is an infamous outlet mall. and there are a few in Wisconsin too! one's next to Culvers!!! two words: Cheese curds! yum.
and i'm glad SOMEone feels me on the eatery situation at CMS! LakeForest is even worse! their Starbucks closes like at 5pm i think! (and what's funny, Desi...is that most people that live there....don't even KNOW that Chicago Med is even there!!! haha. a police officer even raised his eyebrows when i told him i was a grad student there! hahaha).
but the lack of food is so not cool. luckily i don't have many dates, b/c i would not have any clue where to go. but hey! that's another thing that we love to complain about, no kinda gurls at school (but don't jump down my throat...*ahem*...Foxy).
b/c dude...a 2:1 guy:gurl ratio in the '05 class? i told Kris that she should make it 2:1 gurl to guy this time!!!
hahah...MTV campus invasion! for reals! when the building was just an infrastructure of i-beams, i entertained such thoughts in my daydreams. but sadly....now it looks just like the old building. white and plain. bleh.
i hated the salt on all the roads during winter. and then it gets on your car and that's why you see everyone elses' car all rusted and busted looking! geese poop is oh so not cool either...and we had to play football in it...no es bueno.
and yeah...8am class? negative, ghostrider. at least if it's true that biochem is at 8am, we won't have to go, Desi.
but hey...i'm surprised that the construction has come along so fast. when they said Dec 2002, i was like, yeahhhhh right. b/c that only gave them 14months, and we all know how construction goes. but it was looking pretty good when we all left. but still...i'm expecting delays, problems, and other troubleshooting that'll push the opening to later.
i just got my Orientation Package in the mail today.
I like the guy to girl ratio :wink:
Hi Guys,
Did anyone receive financial aid package yet? I am under the impression that once you get the financial info from CMS, you then apply for loans using the forms that were sent in orientation packet. Am I right? I've only completed Finch's sheet but since the application deadline for loan is approaching soon ( first week of july, I think) I am wondering if I am supposed to apply for loans now instead of waiting to hear back from finch.
Also, mandatory health insurance policy states that you have to have insurance. Did you all get an application for insurance? Do we get insurance forms during orientation?
BTW, I am still optimistic about getting off waitlist at NYMC so I have yet to get the titer for chicken pox. If anyone has gotten it, can you tell me approximately how much it is? Thanks for above posters for information :)
p.s. one last thing, since woodlands is not furnished, where are you all planning to buy your bed/bed frame? And are there stores that will deliver the bed? (Or will I be able to transport it using my honda?)
I got a financial aid application packet a while ago....it inluded a MPN and Finch's own application.
Hi Dr Foxy:
Oops, I should have said "specific" financial package. I did get the package of info (cost of attendance, finch's one-sheet information requet form, medloan application). What I should have asked was if anyone has gotten a reply back from finch after returning one-sheet form from finch.
I have yet to apply for loan through medloan, I remember the dealine to submit form was July 6th or so.
I would appreciate it if I could get a feedback as to whether or not I should not wait for any info from CMS and initiate the loan process.
Thanks! :p
i would not worry about financial aid. there really is NO deadline. i left for CMS on like 4days notice, and financial aid and all that worked out for me. just make sure your FAFSA is done. that takes the longest.
after that...the people in financial aid (jaime is the coolest admin on campus) take care of the rest for you...and you won't be charged late fees by CMS long as your aid is in the works. i personally liked the way it worked out for me. b/c i got to ask the $$ people all kinds of questions, the best way to do things, etc...and they give you the straight answers, and the best ways to loop-hole things. they totally are rooting and working for you. (adv's of a small school).
health insurance is not really mandatory. you can sign a waiver form, and not get it. or you just sign that you already have insurance, and make up the policy # and type of insurance. but as an alum told me, i'd recommend it. you do not want to be sick and outta commission for ANY length of time during school. it's hard enough to keep up...w/o being in bed for a week straight.
as for the immunizations. those MUST be done.....BEFORE you are allowed to graduate. so basically...you have the next 4 yrs to finish that up. but if you can, i'd take care of it earlier than later. b/c they are serious about it.
lots of students moving downtown sell their furniture. but i'm wary of other peoples' furniture. you can buy furniture in Illinois. i mean...the midwest is not ~that~ bad. and of course, most places offer delivery. but there are plenty of stores that sell furniture out there.
I'll echo FU's sentiments on the financial aid stuff. The people there are pretty easy to work with. Not much to add to that. As for the immunizations and the medical stuff...they made a big deal about that to us last Sept during the MIS orientation but basically I think some people didnt even turn their stuff in because it was never really mentioned again. I know I just stopped at the office in the first week I was there and did it. FU...do you know if we have to do that again? As for furniture, yeah there are definitely furniture shops in the area, as well as bed stores, etc. I advise you shop around a little if you can and try to find the best deal. Ikea is a good place to try out as well. Desks and stuff you can get at Officemax, etc if you want. Even Walmart has some quality Futons (but I dont think they deliver).
FU...wow are you serious that people dont even know about the school? I know when I went to the post office in Lake Bluff once, the lady saw my address and guessed I was from CMS so I figured everyone knew about it. But now that I think about it, there is little in the way of student discounts there. That ghetto theater in Whackegan gives student discounts, but I can't remember getting any elsewhere. There used to be this awesome Mediterannean restaurant in Lake Forest called Hamdy's...he would give a 10% student discount and if you forgot to tell him, he'd hook you up with free appetizers...he was awesome and the food was great but unfortunately he closed down. That area is so weak when it comes to really acknoweldging our presence and accomodating. You're right FU about that Lake Forest Starbucks but I think the 5 pm closing is on Sundays. either way still pretty pathetic.
Hi Fu...CMS:
I am laughing out so loud all the birds in my garden got spooked!!!!!!!! Okay, I feel extremely dorky for asking that furniture question. Man, I made North Chicago sound really bad, it's just that when I visited the town during my interview time, all I saw was one stretch of small stores where Savons/Dennys/Schmuck are located, so I wasn't sure if there are any other stores around!!!!!!! I'm sure people manage just fine, but I'm the kind of person who gets uptight about things like getting bed/groceries/etc.
Thanks again for your thorough explanation :)
Oh and yeah I hope its Biochem that's at 8...haha. No way I want to go to any 8:00 classes...ugh. And FU Ive got your back on that girl thing. Gees do I really hope they fixed that guy:girl ratio for this year. Was it really 2:1? I guess with the amount of APs around I couldnt really tell but either way we need to have more...hehe.
I hope that the Lake Bluff thing has gotten taken care of. Last tiem I went was late in the Fall...after that things seemed to get too busy and we didnt think we'd be able to get on. You got jacked there with having to pay those $5...haha. Anyways...I'll have to check it out when we get back.
I think I disagree FU about the PBL in that it could actually be kind of cool to look the stuff up if it were done right. I just think it sucked the way they did it at CMS. Most schools kind of do it over a period of a few weeks and it's stuff relevant to class so at least it gets time to sink in and it's helpful. That one for Biochem was stupid since it was just one day and no one really even knew what to expect. If they're gonna do it that way they might as well not have it.
trying2becomeMD: no sweat. i'm feeling ya, tho'...but i'm a just sarcastic jerk. b/c i felt the same way when i was driving around the northern 'burbs the first time i got there. i was like, where the hell are the movie theatres? i'm a movie-junkie, and i'm getting scared. where are the museums? where are the coffeehouses? (seriously, Lake Forst and Lake Bluff has like one each...but Waukegan has ZERO! is that a good thing or a bad thing?)
and i like getting into bed too! and i like groceries too! (sometimes both at the same time!...but only when my roommate's not around). :wink:
Desi: it really WAS 2:1 guy-to-gurl. 60 to 120. no joke. people were laughing out loud at orientation. and orientation is funny...b/c in the auditorium, Kris Jones will announce ALL the avg MCAT and GPA numbers for the M1s, and the APs. i was kinda like...whoa. that's strange. then i was pissed b/c my numbers were right at the M1 numbers!
well...i don't like PBLs. i mean, i can see how they COULD be neat. but the biochem one was soooo whack. i emailed the handout to my boy at UCLA med, and got the answer. then i read it in my biochem book. end of story.
and i would've been even more annoyed, if i had to do MORE work than that, for some stupid folate deficiency problem. especially when they give us lab data and results that we have NO idea what it means! waste of time i think...esp since our group met for like 10mins, and everyone knew the answer, and the proctor was just holding out and trying to tell us sciencey stuff. and you get to do another one in MCB! ha!
tryingtobecomeMD and others with waitlists:
I'm trying to do my FA stuff so it gets there on time...my FAFSA was completed in March, so what do I send in? Have you sent in MedLoan stuff yet? Should I sign that promissory note, and should I take out the full amount (52Kish)? What are you people doing? Should we go by that "projected budget" in the handout they give?
if you have questions, i would call the FA office. they are super cool. and i wouldn't signt that promissary note, until you know everything. (like, if you check that you want to pay the interest, you MUST pay. and eithe way, it's better to NOT check it, b/c you always have the option to pay it anyways...instead of being OBLIGATED to pay).
if you have worries, then i'd take out the full-budget. b/c you can always pay back any unused (y'right) money at the end. and you can readjust how much you take from FA later.
and of course, the projected budget is a bunch of bull. $1,200/month in expenses? c'mon now. they have even calculated travel expenses? and i know for me...i went way over that since i live in California.
i went about $5,000 over the budget. :( (oops. thanks mom). and i'm not really an extravagant spending (outlet malls!). but i had to pay rent over the summer, buy my bed/desk/home stuff, and the additional start-up costs involved in moving/living in a new city.
ok, Thanks for the info...I just filled out the application with my dad and he suggested not taking out the full budget, but I think I'll need it. Ugh, I calculated how much I'll owe after 4 years and I feel like puking <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />
Hey.. what were you scores and grades to get into Finch?
•••quote:•••Originally posted by PreMedAdAG:
•Hey.. what were you scores and grades to get into Finch?•••••I sent you a PM
DesiMDHopeful: What type of internet connections are available in the Woodlands? Will I be able to get DSL? I have a serious SDN addiction and I'll need something with speed :wink:
FU...CMS: I think I need to sign the promissory note to get my application processed, and it's all due July 8th so I'd like to get it in soon....I'm not going to pay interest while in school, so do you think it's ok to send it in? I also plan on calling the school tomorrow morning to bother them with questions :wink:
you will have to pay for cable modem or DSL if you live in the Woodlands. i think it's pretty pricey too, from what my friend tells me.
and the local phone companies in Illinois are soooo lame. they charge toll charges...for LOCAL calls! it's ridiculous. we had SBC Ameritech...so im not if it's for every company. but it's pretty lame. a lot of my friends just had cell phones, and no land-lines.
as for student debts....i don't even worry about it. and i'm taking 5 yrs of it, too. the people at VCU told me that most of their kids pay it off in 9-10yrs. so whatever. and i don't know of any doctors that work and are starving. so like now...i just go to Vegas and say, "what's another $100??!? i already owe $53K for my AP year in Illinois! let the dice ROLL!" and by the time i graduate...i'll owe more than a quarter of a million dollars! i just think that's funny to say.
Foxy, if you send in your FA app soon, i would definitely call the office and ask them about everything and anything. they are super cool. and i think it's their job to make sure students get money and that they pay it back. so they always have your back.
and what about the spanish lesson from Blue Streak and Martin Lawerence? "I am a federale! tengo el gato, los pantalones!"
What happens if you miss orientation? <img border="0" alt="[Pity]" title="" src="graemlins/pity.gif" />
And when is a deposit due to CMS?
Can you be accepted off a waitlist during orientation? When does that lil' rule start for us where no more schools can accept us.....July 22nd or July 29th?
miss orientation? nothing really. you won't get your student ID, you won't get to meat up...i mean, meet...your new classmates, and bond with everyone.
as a M1A, i don't have to go to orientation. but i'm really looking forward to it. it was really fun last year...even though i was living outta a suitcase and crashing at a stranger's house. it's really fun and a lot of questions get answered and a good way to settle in. but not absolutely necessary.
the $100 deposit is due 2weeks from receiving your acceptance letter....at least that's what my letter said. and since it's now past May15th, it is no longer refundable.
i think the "rule" about not getting in off a waitlist is when you fill out that damn survey online. a rumor goes, that someone filled it out...and then got off the waitlist the very next day to UCLA. and couldn't do anything about it. totally heinous. (but it kinda sounds like a story from band camp...."this one time") but i have no idea what the official stance is on that....
and i feel ya for all those still holding on to waitlist dreams. it really sucks to try to go to a new school when you have a naggin' feeling/hope that you might be somewhere else, real fast. i would just say, go to school 100% committed. and if you DO hit the waitlist lottery, then hey...you got problems.
but they are GOOD problems....problems i'm sure most would kill to have. and what's a few hundred more bucks to move again if it's to go to a school you feel much better about? it's the next four years of your life...and it's the start of your medical career. but like most things...you gotta do it without looking back, and commit else you'll be miserable. and when the time comes, you just have to pack up and move again if you're lucky. at least you'll be good at, and used to it by then.
Foxy: For internet last year I just used dialup. They have DSL thru ameritech but that costs like around $50 a month. AT&T broadband (cable co) does offer cable modem but it was only being offered in certain places and not in the Woodlands (at lesat not last year). I know they had a deal though where you could get it with free installation for 6 months at $20 which is an awesome deal. Im not sure if they're still doing that or what but it might be something to look into if you want it and if that deal is still in the works.
Oh yeah, Foxy Im wondering about that little date as well. Im guessing it's the 29th because you dont have to go to orientation if you dont want to. I'll let you know if I find out anything official on that.
For those of you who already have experience with North Chicago....how early (or late) can you put deposits for apts? do you think lake bluff is better than waukegan area???
i cant really find any good information online and i want to start looking for a place to live.
just wondering:)
thanks :p
That $100 deposit was NEVER refundable! I think Finch makes a great deal of their money off accepting people early and keeping their $100.
Hey Amma...I know you can find a place as late as orientation week as I heard about a lot of people that did just that last year. You may be able to call into the school (Student Affairs office) to get more info or just try some of the phone numbers on that list that was given with the orientation packet. Im not totally sure what there is available in Lake Bluff but Waukegan definitely has a lot of options (which may be cheaper since Lake Bluff is a rich person town).
Thanks for the info everyone :)
I think I meant when is the first tuition payment due?
Amma....lots of people go to CMS on a few days notice, and have to find an apt really fast. so you can find an apt as late....as possible. (i did last year. met my roommate at orientation, and ended up signging a lease with him two days later).
and if you are definitely going...you can find an apt as early as you want. you can start a lease over the phone if you want. i know a few that did that without even looking at the apts.
Foxy, tuition is due at the start of the quarter???? there have a graduated penalty system. (like after X weeks of school, you get penalized, and then after 2X weeks, the % goes up). same thing if you withdraw. i think 1st week, you can withdraw and get back 100% of your tuition. 2nd week, you get a smaller percentage, and etc. and since it's quarter, you only pay the $35K tuition in three easy installments!
Foxy,
Did you call the FA office regarding promissary note? Please post what you found out!!!
Another q: Can you pay tuition with your credit card? I am wondering if I can take advantage of accruing ff miles on it.
Also, if I was to have dial-up internet, will there be local number so that I don't get charged toll?
Thanks!
i don't know if you can pay tuition with a credit card. but i'm goin to try to do it this year. i read on the Allopathic forum that you can if you pay the fees BEFORE your checks come in. else...any checks the school receives, they automatically take to pay for your tuition and anything other outstanding balance. if after that, you have any money left, it get's "disbursed" to you. but someone said on that thread, that it's up to the school, and that schools may charge you for using a credit card or the cc company may charge you also.
re: local calls. i have no clue. i just remembered reading about it when we first got out phone set up. b/c i was thinking, i should just get a cell phone and forget the landline. but after that...we never thought about it, and just made calls like normal people without ******ed phone companies.
I called and found out good info thanks to my new best friend Jamie :wink: ...and I called anonymously too, so I even asked about what happens if you get into your state school and need a refund :wink:
* Go ahead and sign the master promissory note no matter what, as long as you have at least one acceptance to a medical school. That is for Stafford (Federal) Loans and you will need that money. The max you can take out per year is 38,500. If you get into a cheaper school, they refund the money you don't need to borrow.
On your alternative loan application (medloan), leave the amount you want to borrow BLANK. The projected budget on that info sheet was from last year, so we ened to wait for our award packets to know how much we'll need to borrow, and they'll fill that out.....this will happen after school starts. If you make any corrections in your applications, cross it out and initial it.
For your MPN, leave the lender name and bank BLANK.
Go ahead and get all your paperwork done ahora (NOW). If you don't end up going to CMS, medloans will refund everything no questions asked. CMS' FA application stuff is due July 8th, so get it done people. It doesn't hurt to send it in now, even if you're on waitlists like me.
Tuition is due the first day of the first quarter, but you have 5 business days to pay it....so July 29th plus five.
If you have a loan from undergrad and need a deferrment, fill out the form from your loan provider and send it to the REGISTRAR's office (not the FA office). Don't worry, they won't process it until you pay tuition for Finch, but it's good to have it in there waiting for them.
I thought of taking out less than the full amount, but Jamie said it works out to be just enough money and he laughed when I told him my dad was getting cheap. :wink: The amt they propose is suficient (or maybe not enough according to FU...CMS :wink: ).....
I asked about paying by credit card and he was about to transfer me to the business office or something since he didn't know the answer, but soince I had more questions to ask him, I let that one go :( . TryingtobecomeMD: just call 847-578-3217 and ask them :)
Any more questions? I hope I explained everything clearly :)
sweet! Foxy, you are becoming a CMS expert too!
i talked to Jamie today too. and was i right, or what? he is the coolest! and he knows a lot of students by their first names, so that is really cool and he'll holla at you in the hallways if he needs a form or a signature. (so cool...considering something like that would take UCLA 2weeks to just mail out what they need....and 2 more weeks to receive and process).
and i agree...the "projected" budget is pretty sparse and tight.
i tried calling the business office about credit card payments, too, but i also got no answer. but Jamie seems to think that you canNOT do it at CMS. he told me to ask the BizOffice why, and to maybe start a student petition. (i will, too! now that i'm not a second-class citizen/AP, i will totally rock the boat).
and i think a better phone number to remember, is 847.578.3000. you get the operator, and you can transfer you to ANYone and any dept/office!
okay....just got a msg from CMS.
the biz office says that you CANNOT pay tuition with your credit card and earn those flyer miles or other goodies. that's whack. i'm mos def going to start a petition now!
I'll sign your petition...I need miles :D I'm almost at a free trip!
That's really too bad...oh well, maybe we can petition when we get to CMS.
Thanks for all your work guys. I'm off work now, braving LA traffic...
BTW, FU...CMS, I am also a bruin. Nothing like 2 weeks wait period from registar's office, huh?
trying2becomeMD: i'm feeling ya.
i ~hate~ Murphy with a passion. at least at CMS, i don't have to walk half a mile to get the run-around at the admin bldg, (where people even stop you in the hallway to say hi and tell you what they need, AND make personal house calls!).
if only UCLA was as profficient with bureaucratic stuff as Parking Services. parking is on point! overdue on a meter by 5mins, and BAM!, ticket. if only Murphy had a 5min turnover....
and for reals...the petition is on.
Wow sounds like you guys are all on top of things. Foxy Im really impressed...you definitely are becoming a Finch expert in your own right. Im liking the fact that all my future classmates are already working together as a team and getting results. Hopefully it's a sign of good thigns to come! And hey Im down with that petition because that's really screwed up.
re: the "petition"
i emailed someone in the business office, (don't know if it's the right person to email), about it. and i emailed Joe Lester, the student council parliamentarian, (i guess being AP VicePres and going to like...3 meetings all year had SOME benefit) about how to amend or change school policy.
and i'm in the midst of gathering information from other schools that DO allow credit card payments, in hopes that it will be of some use in case i have to draft some sort of petition/amendment, etc.
i'll keep y'all posted.
I called the Woodlands and there is only one 2 bedroom/2 bathroom rennovated apartment left! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> It's on the second floor and I have it on hold for 3 days as long as they get my deposit by Monday (for $1,139 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> ).....do you guys think I should send it in? I have 5 waitlists but I have no idea if they're gonna move at this point....I'd really like to meet my roommate during orientation rather than over the phone, but maybe it would be better for me to meet someone who has already secured an apartment. The lady from the Wodlands is sending me a list of those people.
Also, the CMS roommate list was supposed to be available today, but I haven't received an email yet.....stupid Chicago time is an hour slow too! :rolleyes: :wink:
So what do you think I should do? Send in the deposit or meet a roommate who already has an apartment (kinda risky)?
10 minutes later I made my own decision :D
I've lived in a dorm room the size of a closet with public restrooms for 4 years, so anything would be better than that. :wink: ......I'll just call people up now and make my final decision during orientation as many people will. :) Sound good? OK, I love talking to myself.......
good call. as you can see, apts at the Woodlands are a commodity. i'm sure you can get rid of an apt there if you had to.
(you dorm'd for 4 yrs? yikes)
What do you guys think?
Should I send in that deposit or save my money? :confused:
If I have to get rid of the apartment if I get in somewhere else, do you think I can find someone to pay me the deposit I paid?
p.s. I dormed for 4 years b/c I had no car <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />
Hi Foxy,
I would not send the deposit now. Especially since you are on wl at other schools, I'd hate to lose the deposit. And also remember that if you wanted to live with another roommate, you might want to consider waiting till later to find out if they are going to be okay living in woodlands. I myself will wait till I speak to some people off the roommate list to find out 1)if they have secured a room already (that's so that I can find a compatible roommate rather than having to find someone who will be able to live with me at the secured apartment) 2) if the person wants to live a little farther away where it might be cheaper and nicer.
Hope this helps :)
