Anyone have an interview/info about Alabama?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi DTE, I am a junior at UAB. I can honestly say that the school is truly top-notch. I have been thoroughly impressed with the program and faculty. Of course, there are frustrations here and there, just like at any school, but overall I have had a very good experience.
As far as the interview goes, it is conducted by the admissions committee as a group. I think there are 4 dentists and a senior student on the cmte. They interview each candidate individually after a school tour and lunch. I would say it was fairly low-stress. My impression is that the cmte. just wants to get to know what type of person you are and assess your communication skills and interest in the profession.
If you have any more specific questions, I am more than happy to answer them as best I can. Good luck!

😱 The word "choke" was created to describe situations such as this, with an applicant like me.

UAB as an instutition is extremely prolific in research but not so much at the School of Dentistry. There is plenty of dental research going on, but as a predoctoral student it is not terribly visible. You can be as involved or as uninvolved in research as you'd like to be.
I would say that overall the dental school is much more clinic-conscious than research-oriented.

Info on Alabama: they marry their cousins down there.

Just kidding, I love the dirty south. 👍

Birmingham is really a very nice place to live. It is much more cosmo than it gets credit for. It is large enough to have fun and cultural things to do, yet small enough to be manageable and easy to get around. I grew up in Florida and actually like Birmingham better (exept for the lack of a beach). Just about everyone I've ever spoken to who has visited Birmingham for the first time has been pleasantly surprised.
And we only marry our cousins if they're really hot. 😉
