I saw an autistic patient this week whose parents inquired about getting him a weighted vest, and they said their insurance will pay for it but only with a doctor's prescription. How do you write for something like that?

I second the referral to OT.

They have weighted blankets, too. Very expensive. I don't have any autism diagnosis, but I first realized how relaxing I found them when I was at the dentist getting an X-ray and they put a lead apron on my chest.

Why not go for the best of both worlds and prescribe a weighted cape?
