I was just seeing if anyone has one of those KNOW IT ALL teachers in there program. Anyone care to share some experiences? I know personally that I have wanted to tell this one guy that he doesn't know everything about everything. I can't talk to my friends about cars, music, movies, sports, or anything without him butting in and trying to show us how smart he is.

I was talking about a surgery the other day that I had seen and he went on about it for 10 minutes. Another example, he tried to figure out what type of wood the wood splints are to hold in a matrix band when we were doing the amalgams!

ANYONE ELSE HAVE THESE PROBLEMS??????

LOL.. Fortunately for me, I haven't encountered any instructors like that at my school yet, and I've been here three years.

I think the wood wedges are balsa (at least the Patterson ones my school buys seem to be). The ones my school uses seem to compress and deform pretty easily (the better to conform to tooth structure with!), reminds me of the days when I used to build models from balsa strips.. 😀

Regardless of where you go and what you do, you will always encounter people like that. The only way to stop these people from irritating us forever is to bring them down to earth. So bring up a topic that you know inside-out and then let him take the reigns. When he's dug himself into a hole- you pounce.

Once bitten, twice shy.

True story about wood and dentistry. A few years back during my residency, I was in the OR setting up the dental supplies for the next patient we were working on. This patient was "mentally challenged" and was also having the ENT folks come in and clean out her ears, and the OB/GYN folks do there thing while we're working on her teeth. I was setting out an assortment of wedges for use, one the ENT attending comes upto me to check out our tools(after all guys will be guys and we do love our toys/new tools😀 ), the attending after seeing the wedges says to me "wow you guys still make teeth out of wood?!" Fortunately with the surgical mask on, my "oh my god is this guy really serious" grin couldn't be seen.

BTW, once while I was working on a patient who I didn't share the same particular political views on especially with respect to land management and development(this guy may very well be a member of the Earth Liberation Front for all I know). He asked me what the wedges were made out of, and my reply was "Redwoods!"😀

Keep a sense of humor in this profession and you'll have alot of fun!
