I've never seen AAMC data but I can't imagine it's relevant for academic departments these days? How long until these cash-strapped institutions can figure out they can pay junior attendings 200k and they'll take it to manage 20+ patients and produce 600k+ in pro collections? Seems like a ripe opportunity to increase margins drastically to make up for huge budget shortfalls elsewhere.

Zero reason for any medical student to apply to this field at this point unless your dad owns a private practice AND you have a 10 mil+ trust fund (as said private practice will probably be gone in 10 years).
