I guess I am just getting nervous, but I was wondering if anyone has heard anything from Loyola in regards to the waitlist? Does their waitlist move around the 15th or am I going to be waiting forever! Also, what happens if you don't get off the waitlist do they send you a rejection letter or do you just have to wait until August? Any answers would be much appreciated. I can't stand not knowing if I am at the top or the bottom of the waitlist pile, I really think that stinks! Anyways I am sure a lot of people are feeling this anticipation.

it was my understanding that they rank the loyola waitlist at the end of april & that it begins moving around may 15th. it tends to move all the way through the first week of classes, after which i'd imagine they'd send the rejection letters. it's a little poopy they won't give you a general idea of your rank and also that they don't tell you how many are on the waitlist. i understand a considerable number of people get into loyola off the waitlist, but i'm not sure what % of people on the waitlist will get in.

i got something in the mail the other day asking if i'd like to remain on the waitlist. did you get that? i sent mine back in saying i want to remain on the waitlist but will be sending a letter withdrawing my application tomorrow, so the pool of people from which to draw will be getting smaller. GOOD LUCK 🙂

Thanks! I did send that letter back into them and I also wrote LOI and all that jazz. So... I guess now I just wait. Thanks for the info. Anyone else know anything?

Hi - I've been reading this site for a couple months now, but this is my first post - I'm also on Loyola's alternate list, and wanted to offer some good news.
I called Loyola last week and the lady I talked to was really nice, but couldn't tell me anything. She did say that of the 130 students who entered last year, 80 of them came off the alternate list. AND they've bumped the class size up this year to 140. I hope that helps 🙂

Hey guys,
I am also on the waitlist, but what I heard on the day of my inteview was that about 33% of the class consisted of waitlists (not including those who got off but did not opt to go). And yes I also heard the class whas going to increase by about 10%. However, I'm hoping the amk10 is right and over 50% of the class will come off the waitlist.

I'm on the alternate list at Loyola too. Here is some juicy information:

2002 Application Figures:
AMCAS Applications Received 6,326
Completed Applications 3,362
Applicants Interviewed 569
Acceptances Offered 305

This is for their class size of 130 last year. This fall's class will be 140. So if you interviewed, you have a 54% chance of getting in. The alternate list probably won't move until May 15. All I can say is that our chances are "pretty good" that we'll get accepted eventually.

I think I would cry and scream and I dunno everything else if I eventually got in... Wow I have never felt so desperate! Geez. Well thanks for the info and let me know if you hear anything! Good luck!

any good news about the waitlist?

bump

haven't heard anything... anyone else?????

no love yet on my part either.

bump for another day of waiting... heard anything today????

No calls over here. I think we would know if the alternate list started to move since so many people are on it. On another Loyola thread, someone said that the admissions office would start taking people off the WL early this week. Well, it's Wednesday already!

No acceptances here so I'm pretty anxious to get off my waitlists too🙂

I called the admissions office yesterday and they told me that the waitlist has moved "very little" as of yet and they just started getting out acceptances. Maybe today is the day I get called up to the majors!!!

did they say how they'll contact people? email, phone, snailmail?

I am not waitlisted...but all other important correspondence I have had with Loyola has been through phone, so I would assume this would be too (and others could verify) Very classy.

Dean Norstrom calls you if you're taken off the waitlist. For you east coast people, remember that there's a time difference! Also, I've heard that they even call on Saturdays sometimes!!

When you get called by Loyola, you have to decide then and there whether you will take their acceptance (or so I'm told)

Good luck everyone!!

geez i wish there were a deadline for waiting for the waitlist... this stinks! +pissed+

I'm with you on that one!!! I hate waiting and not knowing. It's the not knowing that is the worst.

Anybody know if the waitlist has moved "very little" because they had very few open spots to fill, or because they just haven't picked/notified many people yet?

I just got off the waitlist and was accepted. And to respond to an earlier post, they did not ask whether I would choose Loyola right then and there. They just told me that they're sending an acceptance package out and that they hope I will attend.

Interviewed 3/7
Accepted off of waitlist 5/16

Congratulations! I hope the calls start coming.

shpate, are you going to attend next fall?

Mike

So you guys called and they won't tell you anything about the "high alternate" list, ie: how many people, where you fall on it? This is rough...I wish they could tell us one way or the other, b/c I'm going to be anxious until the end of July! Good luck to everyone else, I'm right here with you!

has anyone else heard anything?

Ok I just called the admissions office and asked to check the status of my app. She told me that very few acceptances have gone out and that my app was still being reviewed by the committee. I guess this means I am near the bottom so I better start making plans for next year. Oh well...

Do they even have a high alternate list? I thought they don't even give people an idea of where they are--just that they're on the alternate list.

Hey Mike, yeah I'll be going there for sure😀

bump, anyone heard anything today (Friday)???

As another waitlistee, here's my update:

I got anxious and decided to call today. I asked the secretary if I could find out my probability of getting off the waitlist. She put me on hold for 2 minutes, then told me that they were still "seriously considering my application." I wonder if she went to go ask the dean or if she just pulled up my file on her computer (while I was on hold)? She also said that there has been "very little" movement b/c some acceptees are still holding more than 2 schools. I should have replied "just reject them already!"

Good luck fellow waitlistees!

bump, another week of waiting... post if you hear anything.

Somebody asked about the high alternate list a few posts above: that is what I interviewed for. I think that is what we all interviewed for..I don't think there is a regular waiting list, or this "high alternate" list equates to the wait list. It's good to hear that there hasn't been much movement--at least the spots aren't all getting filled while we wait.

I received a phone call on Friday (5/23) and offered a spot. Interviewed 4/24/03. So there is hope! Good Luck everyone.

bump bump!

It's nearly June and still no significant waitlist movement! And Loyola starts at the end of July!

Good luck everyone! Post if you get the all important phone call

I got a call from Loyola today. They gave me a week to make a decision, but I actually made it yesterday. I will call them on Monday and withdraw my acceptance. I hope one of you gets my spot!

I just wanted to let you know I called and withdrew my acceptance from Loyola today. I have to mail them a letter of withdrawal, so it may be a couple days before they refill my spot. What really sucks is that they remembered me, and knew that I told them I preferred Loyola to USC (where I've ultimately decided to go). I feel so bad about rejecting them when they've been so nice to me. Loyola's a great school, and I hope enough spots open up for all of you SDNers waiting for Loyola. 🙂

I just got pulled off the wa?tl?st yesterday (June 2). I am accepting their offer and will be off to the windy c?ty ?n july. ?f anybody,s wa?t?ng on Tulane, my spot will be opening there shortly

Hi Oldtown, Amk10, and all you other lucky people.. did you guys send letters of interest/intent to Loyola, and how many? Thanks!

I was wodering the same thing...do letters of intent specifically to Loyola help? I called yesterday and they told me that they would put me on the very interested list...whatever that means...I thought that I already indicated when I sent that form back to them stating I was still interested in the school. Crossing my fingers but now having second thoughts about moving to Loyola at such a late date. If I move to the med school that I have already been accepted to, I doubt I would pick up and leave if Loyola offered me an acceptance at that point.

I sent 2 letters of ?nterest and one letter of ?ntent. ? interv?ewed jan 24 and sent a letter r?ght afterwards. about a month later ? wrote another very short letter of interest (couldn't th?nk of anyth?ng new to say) and then ?n mid apr?l wrote a 1 page letter of intent. i th?nk it helps alot, because they are very b?g on accept?ng people who really want to be there

I sent Loyola an update letter in early April telling them how much I wanted to go to Loyola and why, and then called the week before I was accepted telling them I preferred them over USC, where I had already been accepted. I felt so bad when I had to call them and tell them I had changed my mind. Judy (the lady who calls you when you get accepted, and called me for my interview) told me when I called to withdraw "You're shaking our confidence in this process." She was laughing, and very friendly, but I felt so incredibly guilty about my decision at that point. They are REALLY big on accepting people they know want to go there, and I threw them a curve ball. I don't regret my decision to go to USC instead, but I really admire their system of admissions and hate that it looks like I abused their trust. Anyway, definitely send in letters of intent, and call them periodically to let them know you're still interested. If they believe you want to go there, you're probably going to get in.

thank you very much for the advice. I think i should be writing letters too. Up till now, i've just let them know that I was still interested over the phone.

bumpity bump . . .

Is the waitlist moving actively yet? I just want to gauge my chances of getting in, ie. if there are spots still available. I have slightly more hope for Loyola than my other waitlist schools. Come on Loyola!!

Just got a call from loyola today 6/9 at 3 pm offering me an acceptance. I pretty much already decided that I would go if they accept me so I accepted their offer on the spot. They offered to call the school I was holding an acceptance for (Penn State) and tell them I would withdraw. I wish everyone luck. I spent the weekend drawing up a letter of intent to send to Loyola too...I got the call about 10 minutes before I mailed this letter off. I wish everyone luck if they are still waiting. My recommendation is to give them a call and tell them that you are still interested and tell them that Loyola is your #1 choice. They put you on a "very interested" list

congrats tgan! I hope I can be your classmate in the fall! did Judy or Dean Norstrom call you? I sent Dean Norstrom an email last Friday but I haven't received a response yet (and she usually replies within a day). I'm thinking of asking my supervisor, who thinks very highly of me, to email or write the school. I really want to go to Loyola!!

Special Kay - you should definitely have your supervisor call them - it helped for me. Make sure they tell them you're extremely interested in the school, and if you would definitely go there if accepted, have your supervisor say that too. They were very receptive to calls from my boss, and it definitely can't hurt anything 🙂 Good luck!

See, I slightly hesitate to have my supervisor call Loyola because how does Loyola verify that it is indeed my supervisor? For all they know, it could be my dad! I'm leaning towards having him email the school.

So far, I've written one letter of interest, talked to Dean Norstrom on the phone (she offered to call me at work), called the admissions office (they took note that Loyola was my first choice), and emailed again last Friday with a statement of intent. Wow, I've bugged them a lot! If my supervisor sends an email to Loyola, what email address should it be sent to? Thanks everyone! Oh, PM me the email address so no one gets ticked off at Loyola.

special kay,

Dean Nrstrom gave me a call on my cell phone. She was very very nice and actually offered to call the school I was holding an acceptance to a call. I thought this was a little unorthodox. She then transfered me to Judy for some paperwork that I needed to fill out. Wish you the best of luck Special Kay and I hope to see you there this fall.
