Anyone here successfully transferred from one US MD school to another? Looking for general advice on the process

Currently finishing 1st year in mid-tier US MD school, and am looking into transferring from one school to another to get closer to my mother as her health has gotten significantly worse lately. If anyone has gone through the process, I would greatly appreciate a DM! Just have some questions on how the process is and what I should be looking out for.

Got through first year just fine so far, and I don't expect any issues finishing up. If it means anything, the school I am looking to transfer to is very similar in ranking(like just a few spots away on the US news ranking). Also, both my MCAT/GPA are higher than the school's average incoming stats so I don't expect issues in that regard.

Sorry to hear this, but transfers are almost impossible between schools.

It is very rare to be able to transfer between medical schools.
Most often if they allow it, it will be a transfer after you have completed MS1 and MS2 plus passed Step I

Most US schools say they do not allow transfers, but I was surprised to see that some will consider it on a case-by-case basis.
