I don't think any are free. You need instructors and it gives specialized training for a job. Community colleges usually offer EMT classes, but they are not free.

Volunteer rescue squads will often train you for free if you join up with them. Not sure if there are any of those near Long Island though.

Have never heard of free EMT classes... Best bet would be to check around local fire departments

I doubt you'll find a free course, there is a lot of hands on learning that can't be simply learned from an DVD. Some volunteer dept might offer them to THEIR members, but they might want some sort of commitment or waiting period before putting you through.
