Anyone do NOTHING at all after being waitlisted and still get in???

I know some schools e.g. Vanderbilt have ranked waitlists, but I'm not sure about others (Case Western)!!! I'm concerned because every ADCOM seems to emphasize how important your INTEREST in that school is, yet after attending a dozen or so interview days, I still haven't come up with a "ranking" of which schools I'd attend over others. OK, I have a very vague idea, but it's likely to change and writing a letter of intent would seem contrived. Also, I have no idea why letters of interest help. Isn't it obvious you're interested in that school if you spent $100-500+ on them? How much do you need to grovel to get in?

Anyway, as you can tell, I'm waitlisted just about everywhere! I'm wondering if I should consider my part DONE, or if I need to still actively court the ADCOM :barf:

I'm also just curious about waitlist movement. It makes sense to have a ranked waitlist, but say a dozen or so spots free up....do they take the top dozen straight from the waitlist, or do they take the top dozen from those who sent in monthly updates, letters of intent, etc. ?

Many people get into medical school without writing a letter of intent. I'm pretty sure that an LOI has little importance in how highly a school regards you as an applicant.

As far as showing interest, look to other means. Is the school in your region, or did you apply to some far away university because you think it has low standards and will accept you? What did you write in your secondary? Many places ask, "Why do you want to come here?" Also, you show interest by matching well with the school's personality: overly scholarly or very hands on.

good to hear. It makes sense, yet all the fuss over letters of intent and such make me wonder...anyway, I'm hoping for personal anecdotes. LizzyM mentioned on another thread that the best way to show interest is to just email the school in May and let them know you're still "available." Simple = good 🙂
