I was just wondering if anyone has ever heard of a situation such as this? I am still waiting to hear from a few schools, however, I interviewed mid-January at a school that usually sends out notice of your status in approx. 6 weeks (at the most eight)....so it's beyond that time frame. The interview went really well and I had some strong letters of rec., BUT!! my MCAT score was less than desirable...I emailed them after the interview to let them know that I am retaking the MCAT in April...they emailed back "thanks for letting us know, and good luck"....is it possible that they are waiting to see these next MCAT results?...I'm confused b/c I'm not officially placed on their wailist? (I would LOVE to go to this school)
Has anyone ever heard of this sort of situation? Any thoughts? thanks....as usual, I appreciate this site and the support from total strangers!
good luck to all still waiting....

I think probably they are not waiting to get April's score b/c those scores wont come back until the end of June or so and I think that schools will only use them for NEXT year's appliation cycle.

OMG I just had a revelation. Retaking in April and sending your scores to schools you are wait listed at. Damn, there goes another opportunity I missed!

rockaway, I think I know which school you're talking about, and they should be making decisions soon. (I hope!). They have a lot of wait list movement too, so keep your head up! I'm pulling for you! :D

editing: ok forget it I don't think it's allowed (the April mcat thing)

<img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> Why did you send them that email before getting a decision!?! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

If you got an interview, you are an acceptable candidate! What if they were going to accept you but assumed, after receiving your email, that you are backing out to retake the MCAT in hopes of getting into a better program next year?

I wouldn't have sent them the email you did.

I have a friend who got special dispensation to go though the normal application/interview process without having written the MCATs, and they would review his application after he wrote the April MCATs, putting him on the waitlist if they liked his MCAT scores when they got them.

But this was to a Canadian school, and most schools up here are non rolling, and don't send their decisions out until May, so it's not quite the same deal.

There's no way I could bring myself up to a 30 or better in a month. I got a 22 on kaplan's test drive last month. :( But it is a good idea. I wonder if I studied my a$$ off if I could do it. Kaplan has all their materials in my undergrad librray so I wouldn't have to pay :)

You should not have sent that email in before getting a decision. It could very well tell the school that you've given up on this year's cycle and it may give them a reason to reject you.

I appreciate the feedback...thanks guys I'll keep you posted!

Rockaway-

I know of which school you are speaking too and I DON'T think it was a bad decision to let them know you were retaking the test. As long as you mentioned to them that their school was your number one choice and you wanted to take the test in hopes of showing to them that you were capable of doing well, then you'll be fine. Good luck.

I agree with Dr. Kermit, I think it was a good idea to tell them your taking the april MCAT. If you were thinking about reapplying, you wouldn't have told them you were taking the MCAT. By you telling them it shows you are really interested in the school. Just (if you didn't already) be sure that you tell them that you want to go to their school this year.

I work in a pretty busy inner city ER...but on the rare occasion that it slows down, I use the computer to check SDN....the docs I work with (who graduated 7,8,or more years ago are so amazed at this site...and also interviewfeedback)..they had NOTHING even close to this....one night three of them were standing around me reading the posts like little kids....they were amazed how supportive people are in this process through these sites...of course you have to work hard..and want to be the best doc you can...but that doesn't mean you can't share info with others, be supportive and hope the best for them also....that WILL make you a better doc...one doc told me that a classmate of his held onto 8 acceptances until the very last minute, knowing all the while which school he'd be going to, his reasoning was "why souldn't I hold onto them, they're mine aren't they?" I don't know about anyone else, but I wouldn't want this guy to be my physician.....thanks for the input, you guys will make great doctors,,and I've never even met you!!!!

Is it true that AECOM does not send out decisions to people with low MCAT scores until June? (when April MCAT scores are available).

If so, how low is low?

Does anyone have experience with this kind of situation?
