Other than the obvious downsides, has anyone done two post docs? For family reasons, I need to be closer to home which would require a move in Aug. I am concerned I won’t find a job (I know, it’s soon), but could definitely find a post doc. Thoughts? Thanks all.

Not ideal for personal reasons, but nothing wrong with it professionally. I would try to do something at least a little different so you have a way to spin it (i.e. I wanted experience in X). My graduate advisor did this since there were two areas he was trying to integrate and no one with expertise in both.

Post-docs in our field are pretty short in the grand scheme of things. 1-2 years is nothing. In neuroscience and other areas doing 2+ post-docs over 4-5 years is pretty much the norm.

Thanks for the insight. It’s helpful and feels a bit more manageable.
