Do they offer this often?

deebog01 said:here's what you need to know about Kaplan. They sell a study guide at Barnes and Noble for about 60 bucks. It's just about identical to the study guide given for the course (that costs ~900). Read the book cover to cover and take a sample test from the included CD-rom. I think that the main reason most people sign up for that course is the practice exams. If you can find some practice tests on your own, you won't have to dish out the money for the course. Sources of practice exams:
Barrons study guide, Kaplan study guide, kaplan web site (offers 1 free practice DAT), Top Score Pro. The latter is the best practice. Study as much as you can, and take the tests from Top Score Pro just before you take the real thing.

Would like to know if it helped anyone.

Sure the concepts are not so hard, but I really don't think readying the blue book by itself and taking practice tests is enough. The blue book is a joke in fact... it just gives you a blob of information without giving any section major importance. The course gives you structure and guidance... take my word for it.
I signed up for the online course recently and I don't regret it one bit. It's very thorough and easy to use.
Good luck.

Its really a small cost if you think about it. I mean who in these forums wouldnt pay $1000 to ensure that they had a spot in dental school? I mean it seems like what it comes down to is the DAT.
Thanks so much!
One more thing, once you sign up, do you have any freedom as to the pace that you work at? Also, can you go backwards and review classes if necessary? I am worried that I may not be able to do a class or so should a test come up this semester the next day.
Thanks again!
jlaha said:Yes, you can move at your own pace. You can go back to anything you want, anytime you want. You can watch the lecture videos as many times as your want. It's very flexible.
Yea just take it.Typo said:I think one of the best things about the Kaplan stuff is that you get tons of practice questions. To do well on the test you not only have to learn the material, but you've got to learn how to tackle questions effectively. The more questions you can answer the better.
Mo007 said:Hypothetically, the Kaplan class doesn't teach anything different than what was already covered in the pre-reqs classes (well, except PAT! - which is a self-learning section). So, if the material on the DAT feels like new material, then take the damn course. 😀
The ultimate goal for Kaplan is to teach you the technique (timing, mock tests, etc) to approach the DAT. They are not teaching you the whole Chem, Bio, Maths sections... otherwise, the course would take forever to finish.
Good Luck
