Hi, I was just wondering if those of you who have average MCAT scores have been getting interviews. I have a 30 MCAT and 3.9 GPA from a reputable univeristy, and have been complete for about a month at all the schools I applied to. I'm a little worried because I haven't gotten interviews anywhere, and am already on hold at two places, one if which is Loyola in Chicago, and I'm a Chicago resident. I applied to a good mix of schools, and if schools such as Loyola, which are lower tier, are already placing me on hold, do I still have a good chance of getting interviews later?

Yes! I've recieved several interview invites (which happily surprised me) and have a 30 Q, 3.93 BCMP and 3.83 Overall. I've been doing research since the spring, volunteer at HOSPICE, currently shadowing a Dr, was a member of several clubs, etc...

I'm sure you'll get some invites soon. Good luck!

You have great numbers, don't think for a second you're "average" with a 3.9 🙂.

As Kleintje said, you should definitely be getting some interviews.

As for Loyola, I believe there was some discussion a couple of months ago when the process began on how selective they are. Or rather, no one really knows what they want from an applicant --> many people get rejected with stellar stats.

How many schools did you apply to?

I applied to 15 schools, 5 of which are Chicago schools. I have tons of research, extracurricular activities, etc. so I am confused as to why I haven't gotten any invites yet, but hopefully they will come soon. 🙁

Hey, I as in the same position as you were eight days ago... avg stats and zero interviews. I've received three invites to interview this week. I swear, after you get the first one, they'll start trickling in. Good luck

29R, 3.51, four interviews, two possible interviews. Hang in there!

i wouldn't be too worried either. Most schools are taking about a month to get through your file and send you an invite, so expect something soon.

30, 3.6 - 6 interviews.

30Q, 3.4 gpa, 1 interview

Exact same stats....applied to 14 schools. 9 interviews so far and two rejections. Applied very early though. Hang in there.

Those stats are likely above average for all accepted students (although I haven't researched it in a couple of years), let alone interviewed. Many people with lower scores will get interviewed and accepted.

SDN certainly makes it seem like everybody is a super genius, but I knew very few applicants with scores over 30 in the real world. 🙂

have any of you gotten interviews at any of the chicago schools (Rush, Loyola, UIC)?

To the OP: I don't have those types of stats... I largely attribute my success thus far ( 9/10 secondaries, of 5 completed, 3 interviews, 1 acceptance) to making myself unique. The ECs are far more important than the average applicant thinks. If the ADCOM places us all in relative stacks based on GPA and MCAT scores, only your ECs make the difference in your respective category. The only secondary I haven't gotten is from UAB, and they took quite a while to invite OOS applicants but I feel I'll get one sooner or later (although I won't fill it out).

I think it is important to grab the reader's attention when they are looking at your essays. If you are just boasting, its boring. If you have "tons of research", keep in mind, many of them have megatons, so the length of your experience means little to them. What you gained is key.

Lastly, don't let SDN fool you. Getting multiple acceptances is definately an ego boost, but at the end of the day, you can still only attend one school. So be pateint, your interview will come, and if you are banking solely on your scores getting you through, you'll probably go through this cycle again.

White guy with a 31S MCAT...with interviews at Penn, NYU, Wake Forest, among others.

i had a 28 mcat and 3.84 gpa, and i got accepted to the medical college of georgia this year. last year, i was invited to an interview there, as well as one at mercer university. i'm sure med schools outside of georgia are slightly harder to get into, but just letting you know that it's possible.

3.76 GPA, 30P MCAT
6 inteviews
Average ec's(frat, intramurals, volunteer)

Remember, 30 is NOT an average score for the MCAT. The test is designed so that the average score in each section is an 8, with a standard deviation of 2.5. That means the average score for any given MCAT is a 24. Your score of 30 would place you about one standard deviation above the mean, which is about the 70th percentile. That's fairly competitive, and within the range of the average for accepted students. Don't let SDN freak you out. Remember that a lot of the things posted here are part of a giant e-pissing contest.

😕 I don't know how it is now, but when I took the MCAT last year, a 30 was listed as somewhere between 79-83 percentile.

Where did you get that avatar?!

Last year, I had a 30 MCAT, 3.8GPA...interviews at 5 schools, acceptance off waitlist at 1...this was also in addition to getting my file complete rather late (mid to late november)

its possible

30O 3.76 gpa, 3.81 bcpm

applied 15 schools, 7 interviews so far with 1 "further review". I'm a NY resident.

You can click on my mdapp link to see my stats. 7 interviews so far and was complete at all schools by early August. I haven't heard back from any other schools for at least 3 weeks, so my current thoughts are to content myself on the 7 interviews, give each one my best shot, and see what happens. good luck everyone! 👍

Hey I have an interview at UIC, but I also got put on Loyola's waitlist........have a 32R MCAT, but my GPA is only a 3.58 (BCPM 3.5) so just wait it out. UIC I was complete at 9/1 and they notified my on 9/28, so it takes about a month.

I have a 30M MCAT with pretty good extracurricular activities and a 3.85 GPA and 3.96 in the sciences. My AMCAS was verified on 7-11. Right now I have an interview at Penn State on 10-13 and another possible interview at Roaslind Franklin. I was put on hold at U of Michigan.

Dude:

30 MCAT and 3.93 is totally solid numbers, and you're sure to get tons of interviews!

I have close to similar numbers and have 16 interviews thus far (including Mayo, Southwestern, Baylor, Cornell, Dartmouth, Georgetown to name a few).

They'll start rushing in anytime now; don't sweat it at all! ANd don't let any of these SDN freak a zoids with monster stats (37+ MCATs) freak you out!
