Anyone with Form F get an unusually low PS score

I don't know if I had form F but I went down 2 points from my highest PS score which was pretty depressing since it was already sucky. ****ty....

I know they say nobody has ever gotten a higher score after regrading but this is unbelievable! I have never gotten anything less than 74 out of 77 on any of the AAMC tests with actual simulated test conditions. How do I get an 8 on PS!!!!

I would have been happy with an 8! I was consistently getting that on the practice exams. I did fine in every other single section. I even went up a point in BS, but I went down 2 points to a measly 6 in PS! I am baffled.

hi guys,
i had form FM and i only got a 9 in physical!! i got a 12 physical August 2005 Mcat and my practice scores were in the 11-12 range. it must have had some steep curve

I also got an unbelievably low PS score. I used to get 13-14 and never below 11 on PS. But I got a 10 on August exam. 😡 😡 😡 PS is supposed to be my strongest section, yet I got lowest score on this section. 😱

First of all, I had form FL.

I thought I really did well on PS,...coming out of the MCAT I guessed that I would get an 11,... yet I scored a 9. The problem was that everyone I talked to on test day also thought they rocked the 'F' series PS section and I admit that troubled me. From what I gathered, people taking the other series seemed to think their PS was unbearable. My feeling is that scores on the 'F' series droped off very quickly with only a few missed questions.

Before I received my results I would have guessed that best case I scored 11PS, 9VR, 10BS with a worst case scenario of 9, 7, 9 and yet I scored 9, 10 and 11.

So I did much better in everything where I felt I struggled and I struggled in what I thought I kicked butt on. This shows you that you never really know what you are getting (unless of course you just know you got them all correct.)

It just goes to show that they always say the harder the exam the better the curve....i was ok in PS...

Yup, same here. I need to check which form I took - is that on the prinout AMCAS application? Didn't see it on the score summary website.

Physics is my strong section but I am admittedly poor in chemistry. I was not missing any physics questions on practice tests and averaging a 12 on PS overall (was doing average on chem questions). August MCAT thought I did fine on PS... was guessing 10 worst case. made a 9PS and was certainly surprised.

I was pretty surprised with mine. I pulled an 11 in PS. I was only able to get a 10 once in all of the practice tests I took. I was normally getting 9s, sometimes 8s.

Something odd does seem to have happened with the PS section. I'm not sure if it was a steep curve or a shallow one. Maybe a lot of clumping whereby a single question or two makes a difference in your scaled score. With their scaling procedure, it must mean that somewhere there are people who did very well on ths PS section... presumably better than expected.

I had form FL, and I too got a 9 in PS, whereas I was getting 10-12s on the practice tests. I also felt that it was WAY easier than kaplan tests, and so I thought I would score quite well. I think Old Man Rich is right: PS was too easy, and too many people rocked it, which means in order to seperate yourself from the pack, you probably need something ridiculous for form F.

I had an unexpected 7 on PS, I was really scoring between 11's and 14's on my practice exams. I got an 8 in bio and a 6 in verbal. I don't know what to do, please give me some advice....

I am in the same boat as you, just like many others around here. I would say have it regraded, because that is what i and many others are doing here. Don't worry yet.

By God,

Don't want to sound like a jerk, but you guys need to make peace with your scores.

Kaplan and AAMC practice tests are for PRACTICE, there is no guarantee that they will reflect your actual score or the actual content on the test. That's why many of us feel a little shocked when doing the real thing, but if you know your stuff, it really wouldn't make a difference.

All this rescoring nonsense need to stop. Save your money and focus on the future.

I agree. I don't think anyone has gotten their score raised after a regrade, and I'm sure THOUSANDS of people before you have been "shocked" by their grades. All those commercial prep courses (TPR, Kaplan, etc.) distribute practice exams that are *like* actual exams, but R&D is just a bunch of people who analyze past AAMC exams and try to come up with similar questions (I would know, I work for TPR). Also, it's just not the same. No matter how much you try to simulate test day conditions, it's just not the real thing.

Did anyone get a lower score than expected on PS?
i got the score I expected (9) in PS but not the score I hoped to get based on my practice tests---I never got more than 5 questions wrong in PS with AAMC tests or kaplan. But I expected to do badly as throughout the exam I kept thinking that it was way too easy and kept double checking answers and as aa result did nto even get to bubble in the last 6-7 questions. That sucked ass man. anyone gonna do it again?

I'm not even considering practice exam scores when I'm talking about low ps score. The section just seemed easy.

I had form FG, I thought the phys section was hard (or at least wierd) and I got a 10. Right around my practice scores from AAMC though.

( Form FJ)

when your good friend who sucks in physics and constantly scored either 6 or 7, such that you were his tutor because you constantly scored 10 and 11 on the practise tests, scores a 7 on the real thing and, to your dismay, so did you!!!!!!!

I dare anyone to comment!!!!!!!!!

😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡

The score I got for PS was lower than the score I would expect from my practice. I scored a 10 in the real PS and I was scoring between 11-12 on the AAMC practice PS. So the real score was lower than I expected...but I also expected to score lower in the VR, which I found to be extremely a hard one on the FL form. However, I scored higher than I ever did in all my practice for verbal. I got a 10 when I was usually getting like 7s or 8s. I am thinking that the curve for PS was a lot more steep while VR was a lot lower due to difficulty. In the end, I got a more rounded distribution of scores...so I cant really complain.

I had form FK and I got a 14 on the Physical Sciences part.

I consistantly tested 13-14 so this wasn't a big suprise. I thought the questions were easier on the mcat PS than most of the practice tests, which means there would be less tolerance for missed questions.

So, a few more small errors than usual on test day and you could easily drop a couple points.

When I think back to test day, I realize that the PS being the first section tested my time keeping abilities. I didn't finish at a leisurely pace but had to rush the last passage and essentially make educated guesses on the last few questions based only on how the answers "looked" and not actually trying to work anything out or carefully consider the question.

I thought the PS section was pretty easy too, so at the time I didn't worry about it and figured a few missed questions at the end would still put me pretty much on track with the number I had gotten right in practice exams. I didn't consider the possibility that everyone else would also do well, and with a steep curve those last few questions would hurt me more than normal.

That probably explains my score on that section... which was two or three points below what I really expected to make based on practice exams. Kinda sucks... but that's the nature of the beast.

Let me know what happens with the regrading, if you improved then ill be sending mine!

So far the news on regrading is pretty pessimistic...dunno if I should send it for a regrade or not
