Can a D.O. who is in an ACGME residency (that does not have AOA approved residency) do a fellowship in the state of Pennsylvania, or do have to be licensced/have AOA approved internship to apply for fellowships in PA? If I do an ACGME IM residency in PA will I have a prob staying for fellowship if my program is not dual-certified or do I need to get my intern year approved...if so, will it be easy for me to get intern year approved?

any info appreciated! thanks

while i was interviewing at one of the d.o. ped's programs in PA, the osteopathic program director told me that if i went to a program that was NOT aoa accredited, i could NOT go on to a fellowship. she made it sound like i'd be missing out on a lot if i didn't go the aoa route. hope this helps. 🙁

thanks for the reply. Anyone else here know about this situation that could offer some info?

You can do a fellowship in states other than PA, FL, OK, and WV. Do the research, don't let someone tell you what you can and cannot do.

Consider applying for Resolution 41 (?) at least 3 months before you start the allo program if you want to try to get intern year covered.
