I took AP chem and AP physics in high school and from that got college credit for those courses. I just assumed that I wouldn't be penalized for doing that, but I have just found out that some schools require a grade for those courses. Specifically, I just had a conversation with someone from admissions at UNLV and she would not give me a straight answer if I should even bother applying. She said that no one had ever applied to that school with my situation, which I can't believe is true. If you had AP credit for pre-requisite courses and still get into a dental school please let me know which ones really care and which ones don't.

Thanks

I have credit for AP chem and biology for undergrad, however I still took chem and bio during college. They were required for my major. I believe most dental schools will not accept AP credit in place of taking the acutal class in undergrad or an equivalent higher level science class.

Furthermore, you can't get enough AP credit to fullfill the full requirements (i.e. 8 credits of g-chem). Plus, you need to get credit for the labs. Do you have AP credit for 2 semesters of both physics and g-chem with labs?

Dr. Benj is right. No US dental school will accept AP credit as fulfilling the pre-requisites. Does it suck? Yes. Is it fair? Probably not. Will you be a better person for retaking those courses? Unlikely. Will you continue to face unreasonable and unexplainable requirements in your pursuit of a dental degree? Most assuredly. Accept it and move on. 🙂
