hey guys, like many of u, i am applying this June. So is it true that the only AMCAS application availaBLE Is online now and that the paper version is obsolete?

Yes, it's very true. The worksheet, which is supposed to be exactly like the real application, is available on the AAMCAS website.

Lo and behold, the AMCAS application is actually live today. I just got started this morning. Remember, you can have it finished before the June date and certify it right away. This would put you ahead of the game (or right on, if everybody does it).

Where did you get that information about certifying it before June 18th? Their website still states that you have to wait until that date to actually submit your app and certify it.

I am pretty sure that dtreese means that if you have your entire application all set and ready to go, then on the morning of June 18 you can just click the "Send" button and have it in before many of us. AMCAS will not accept it before then, so don't worry. 🙂

I sure hope that AMCAS is ready for a huge increase in upload on June 18th. Surely their network administrators have made the appropriate plans to increase capacity?

Knowing that they had problems with the web application revision this year, I wouldn't be surprised if their system were to crash on June 18th.

They didn't even have the application ready like they said they would on April 1, and had to delay it until today. I really doubt that they will be able to handle the crunch on June 18.

Hold on to your butts... and keep your fingers crossed on the 18th! We may be more prepared than they think. I may wait until the 19th just for that reason.

I sure hope they're ready. I'm going to try mine right at 12:01 AM on June 18, so maybe the log jam won't be that bad yet 🙂

I'm curious as to why they didnt use the AMCAS-E software that you could upload all at once instead of having to pass information through their webservers for every single change or addition you want to do.

I like the cool java applets they use, but they obviously didnt spend enough time optimizing their platforms for speed.

Oh well, I guess we can't question the mighty AMCAS gods.

I've been working on the application today and I thought it was miserably slow! anybody else think so? or was it just my computer connection?

Its not your computer connection, the reason its slow is because there are thousands of other people doing the same thing you are, slowing up the network connection. The webserver has to process your commands along with thousands of other applicants.

AMCAS people are not equipped very well to do with this volume of traffic. Sheesh, you'd figure they'd be able to buy a better webserver with all those app fees they score on every year.

I am sorry if my post was confusing. All I meant was we should have them ready to go BY the send date. I do see how my syntax could be misconstrued. Sorry. 😱
