Here's my delima. Dartmouth sounds very appealing to me, and I'm trying to decide which schools to apply to. Their enrollment is only 80, so should I take my chances with such a small entering class?? (Note: I take the August MCAT and am expecting an average score, nothing extraordinary.)

Thanks!! 🙄

I'd say go for it. My MCATs werent spectacular, and I got accepted.

I'd say go for it.. My Mcats were good but not great, my gpa on the low end of acceptable. But someone told me to apply to 10 'wish list' schools, schools you think would be great but you don't think you have a chance in. So I did. Admissions game is like the lottery: you can't win if you don't play.

I just got accepted to Dartmouth.

Congrats to you both!! That's great! And, thanks for your input. I'll need to take calculus next year per their requirements, but that's not a problem.

calculus is a requirement at many schools.
if you like being out in the middle of nowhere, Dartmouth is a great place.

what is there low end gpa and mcat. thanks for the advice

I've read that their MCAT averages are 10's, and I would assume their GPA would be fairly high. I didn't find anything specific on that.

Let me tell you this..

My VR is '6' 😡 but I am currently on the waitlist.

Wow! But, that's cool that you still have a chance of getting in. Do they give you any indication of what number you are on the waitlist?? Also, do you mind sharing your other stats with me (ie. GPA, total MCAT, extraciric.)

Thanks!! 🙂

I can't say enough good things about Dartmouth. It's situated (at least in my mind) in the most beautiful town in America. The people are super-nice and the surroundings are ultra-safe. The hospital is amazing. The student body is very closely-knit, they go everywhere together. Not to mention the New Directions curriculum where you get out of class by noon! I consider myself a very lucky person in getting off the waitlist, because they have over five thousand applications for seventy something spots. DMS is a great place if you're interested in rural medicine because the area is as rural as you can get.

I guess one gripe I had when I first arrived there was the utter lack of ethnic diversity in the denizens and the student body. But once I got to know some of them, it didn't matter much anymore.

One big factor that applicants often ignore is whether you'll be happy at your favorite medical school. What good do rankings do if you'll be miserable relating to egotistical students and sitting through class all day. Success is measured by what you can do with the medical school, not what the medical school can do for you.

Again, I consider myself very lucky in getting into Dartmouth Medical School. I've read that the school tend to favor older individuals with significant life activities (my student host was a professional mountain climber). Which makes me more surprised because I'm fresh out of college, did well on my tests, but not so spectacular on the extracurriculars.

I'm definitely applying to Dartmouth! I prefer a small class size even though it means fewer people might be admitted. I think Hanover is probably a nice town to live in, but I do have some concerns about living there for 4 years. Does anyone have any info on the Dartmouth/Brown program? That is really appealing to me.

This program is unique since you can receive training in both rural and urban areas.

Actually, I met a handful of minorities, and I know they were trying to find a director for their minority affairs dept. (or cultural affairs, forgot their name.) I thought they supported minorities pretty well, but their class size is so small, it's not like you can have a lot of any particular ethnicity.

oh. fyi. my gpa is *almost* 3.3, 32 mcat.

Not to mention Dartmouth has the cutest girls.

I, too, am thinking of applying to Dartmouth. Anyone know anything about the fin. aid packages? Those who have been accepted, how does it look?

but seriously, i think DMS is a much better school (contrary to what usnews may want us to believe)...location-wise i'm not impressed with either but hey...you can't have everything

Theres always that cool DVD called Dartmouth Medical School: The DMS Experience.

Did any of my fellow acceptees get it in the mail?

apply. dartmouth is a school that looks past numbers and really takes seriously the interview. how i got in i don't know but am eternally grateful.

Hopkins.. I haven't gotten jack yet.. I'm hoping it will come today.. I figure Andrew called Tuesday... dropped it in Wednesdays mail... Hoping it made it across the country in three days.. maybe I'll get it today. 🙂

OH, BTW..

shot in the dark here...

Is anyone else from the NorthWest going to Dartmouth? -O

No DVD here, just a bunch of papers. But it doesn't matter since I'll be getting the DMS Experience in less than three months.

i have a couple of their DVDs
if anyone wants em, the $$ is negotiable

I have thirty brand new Pritzker folders (don't ask me where I got them because then I'll have to kill you).

A trade?

enticing offer, but your 30 homogeneous Pritzker folders are no match for my personal "diversified portfolio" including those of SUNYs(SB (high capacity), down/upstate), NYU, MSSM (my personal favorite w/lovely caduceus on that one), Rochester, MCP (it's scarlet, but who gives a crap), AMC, NYMC, NUMS, and of course DMS - and how ironic that my top choice school has the cheapest looking folder, made of plain (recycled?) paper that got completely drenched on my way home from the interview, and now looks like it suffered a terrorist attack Oh well, i guess i'll be going to school with my favorite MSSM folder - i wonder if i'll get any stares 🙄
