I am thinking of applying the coming cycle to take a chance and see if I can get accepted for 2006 w/o a BS. I have heard of it happening- does anyone have any stories about this? Or should I just forget about it? I have a great GPA and will take the DAT this summer, do a lot of volunteering, shadowing, etc.

Also about the letters of recommendation- with the big chance I won't actually get in this time around, what about when I re-apply the next year, can I use the same LOR that will be about a year old by then? I would hate to ask for them twice.
thanks

I have heard of people applying after junior year and getting accepted but after only sophmore year it must be more difficult since most dental schools prefer people with some kind of a degree but if you have most of your pre reqs done then its a possibility. What is your gpa, it should be extremely high if you plan on applying this early. Anyway i think its too late in the cycle to apply now you have the gpa going for you but you are also missing two years of your education which can be looked down on.
As for the LOR's i think you need fresh ones for every cycle because they need to be mailed directly from your professors to aadsas but you could ask your professor to save them and just have them change the date for the year after. Good Luck!

The number of applicants applying with the minimum 90 credits and being accepted is very, very small. You're at a disadvantage because you lack a degree (that is a huge plus in adcom's eyes) and you have not completed at least your junior year. If you feel strongly about your chances then I would apply to just a small number of select schools. As far as retaining your LOR, I don't see why not - as long as you don't send the exact same letter to the same school twice. Best of luck!

To clarify, I am a sophomore now, I start my junior year this coming fall, when schools are interviewing for 2006 acceptances. If I got accepted at that point, I would only be missing my senior year.
thanks

so you want to apply in may when you are through with your sophmore year for the next cycle?? you can do that make sure to apply early i have a friend who just did that, she has a 3.9 gpa with 18 AA, she applied in june and just got interviews for this month so even if u have a great gpa you're still somewhat at a disadvantage due to not having a degree but apply early and you will be all set! 👍

Currently GPA is 3.75 overall and 3.6 science/math. What do you consider extremely high 😳)? I still have to take A&P, physics plus finish up organic and trig this year. Hopefully I can keep GPA up there. I absolutely hate mathematics!! If I don't do stellar on the DAT this summer, I may wait a year and study up more... I'm taking DAT early-ish cuz I don't want to get any further out from year of chem and bio; I jumped right into core sciences fresh. year. Ya know what I mean?

Thanks for your comments, I appreciate it very much. From one chick to another-good luck to you to ;o)

your current gpa is great and you definately need to keep it up in order to get accepted early and without a degree. my gpa used to be awesome before organic II, biochem and cell bio so work hard you have a lot of course work to get through. do you have any experiance in the dental office yet?

I have shadowed 50 hours and will do at least 50 more this summer. Working in dental office?-no. I have been in the health care field a while, though (I'm a non-trad). I volunteer a lot, both in community service and the arts. I have taken a metalsmithing class, too which was a blast.

Yes I will keep working hard- the only class left that scares me is physics, like I said I hate math. Not sure if I will take biochem or not.

Thanks again
