I have excellent stats from top undergrad and top grad school, but I am an international. That's why I have no clue what the schools will do with me. Especially the state schools.

37 is a lot of schools. In regards to state schools it depends on the nature of the state and their program. Some state schools accept little, if any, out-of-state residents and if you are not a resident, let alone a citizen of the US, your chances are close to zero. It goes without saying that you stand a better chance at private institutions, which don't operate under state admission guidelines and all of that red tape.

hmmmm... you probably should just apply to those places which give international students a good chance. i mean, there's really no point in applying to any of state schools who take less than 10 out of state students a year (much less... out of country).

but in any event, best of luck.

20 hours of research could have saved you 70% on your AADSAS fees (by narrowing down your selections).

Having a small chance is better than nothing, if the fee is not a concern.

You made someone's pocketbook at AADSAS very happy!

👍

You are nuts, 37 schools? Even if you are an international student, none of us have unlimited funds.

i don't understand why everybody thinks this is a real post 😴

I applied to over 200 schools. (That's right...I applied to some schools twice just to make sure they got my info.) 😉

Why wouldn't it be a real post? I'm guessing that this person's parents are kind of well off financially and they want their kid to be rich as well! What's so tough to believe about that?

Just that 37 schools is a lot of places. Especially consider if they get interviews EVERYWHERE!! They'll be interviewing some day new everyday for a month.

LOL, I was just going to type this. I think dat student has more than 37 interviews 😀

If you have the money its actually not that bad an idea so apply to 37 schools.

on AADSAS:
17 schools = $1085
37 schools = $1660

So for an extra $575 you get 20 schools. As you add extra schools the cost of each additional one is less and less. Now of course you haven't factored in the $60 extra or so that each school chargers for a secondary. That will end up making a big difference.

HAHA. Good stuff 🙂

wow.. after 20 schools it's a bargain.. i love AADSAS's business motto.. if u wait until feb 28th to apply they'll slash prices half off..

I applied to 19 schools in all. However, I applied late in the process (late september) and I am STILL waiting for the AADSAS to submit my LORS. As the days go by, I feel like more schools are tossing my application just because my LORS aren't in so I'm going to need all the chances I can get. Applying to more schools isn't necessarily a bad thing. Whats a couple hundred dollars in the grand scheme of things if it gives you more peace of mind and eventually gets you into dental school? 🙂

I applied to a lot of school too, i am sure they will ask why in the interview.. applying to more school might be safer, but the school might think that you have no confidence at all and go to any school that accept you...so, how will you answer if the interviewer ask you why applying to so many school?

just tell them 37's ur favorite number...

Can anybody beat me? hahaha!! I rule!!!!!!!!!!

I'd not brag that up too much. To an adcom that may well translate into: "I'm completely unsure of myself, don't feel that I'm very qualified, and just hope someone will take a chance on me."

I don't mean to slag on you, but the above is one of the first things we think when we see a student apply to over half the programs in the country. The second thing we think is "why should we bother interviewing him/her cause he/she probably has no real interest in our program anyways."

Just food for your thought.

Just pick 7-7 schools (maybe as many as 10) that you reasonably see yourself getting into (some a reach, some a safety-net thing) and save yourself the $$, the time, and the hassle. My undergrad placed about 95% (out of 200+/yr) of applicants each year and all applied to an average of 7-8 programs.

Applicants don't have an unlimited budget. So, applicants don't spend a ton of money to go to an interview due to lack of interest. Usually schools that can't attract excellent students may think that way. UNC shouldn't reject applicants solely based on the number of designated schools unless it has a dark secret in a closet somewhere.

No secrets here (at least none I've unearthed yet, but I still have till April). And I understand about not having unlimited budgets; though a little more time spent before applying often serves to simplify--and lessen the cost--of the process by streamlining the number of schools applied to. For the record, we don't reject based upon number of apps...I didn't mean at all to give that notion. Just that it raises a few eyebrows that perhaps the student hasn't really looked into each program. We' like to think that the applicants we accept want to be here enough to have really looked into the program and know what they are getting into.

Enough out of me, though. No more on this thread unless it relates directly to the OP. 🙂

Do the dental schools know how many and which schools we apply to?

yes

Today, I called Boston University to ask them see if i can change my interview date. Mine was Jan/30/2006 but now change to NOv/18/2005.

So, don't worry about being interviewed in Jan or Feb.
They told me all interviewee have an equal chance.
If you invited for interview, they don't care too much on your grade.

I thought that applying to too many school was a bad idea? 😕

The adcoms want to see that their school has been researched by the applicants? They want to see that you know about their school and will ask you why our school anyways? What would you say to that? Why did you apply to 37 schools? Are you doing your reasearch for ALL 37 of them?

I read that they have the info on your application about which other schools you are applying? Is this true guys? 😡

If he is an international student I'm sure he has deep pockets. I'd like to see some weirdo, in-country student apply to 37 or more!

do interviewers know how many and which schools that we applied before interviewing us? If so, what is poing of asking us this question? for vertification?
