When one is applying to pediatric residencies, would stating a desire to do chief resident year help or hurt or do nothing for one's application?

probably do nothing. It's more important to impress upon the reader what you want to do AFTER residency, and why you chose the field you chose.

I completely agree with ekydrd. I don't think it would help. Wouldn't necesarily hurt, but I think I'd leave it out.
