Hey all,
I’m a Canadian M2 interested in ophthalmology and am curious about the SF match in the US as a possible route to matching. My understanding is that Canadian MD students are treated the same as US allopathic students for the match and the US match rate for Ophtho is ~85% compared to Canada’s 50%. The SF match occurs about 1 month before CARMS, so I believe if I matched in the US I would be automatically withdrawn from consideration in Canada. Obviously I would have to write a competitive score on step 1 & 2, but I’m curious about this community’s thoughts about participating in that match as a Canadian?
Any sort of advice or anecdotes are much appreciated! Thank you!
