everyone says its very important to apply early to schools.. the way i am taking my classes, i will take O.Chem 1 in the fall (of the year before i would be going to pharm school, if i get in) and i will be taking O.Chem 2 in the spring (of the same year i would be going to pharm school-- the following fall)... all other sciences would be completed by then (on top of the fact that i've already gotten a degree to fulfill all thos non-science classes)

my question is: should i send my transcripts, letters, etc. to apply via pharmcas WHILE i take O.chem1, or should i wait till the fall semester is completed and my O.chem1 grades are in before i send out my stuff??? i know its good to apply early, but is that too early?? i mean, they wont even see how i did in o.chem

VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION!

Just apply as soon as possible...If they are interested in you, they will invite you for the interviews...As of OCHem, you can still apply while taking the first OCHem. I began to apply last month around September , though.

I'm not familiar with the pharmcas system, but I applied while I was taking ochem I in the fall. Upon completing the fall semester, I sent in another transcript.

If you have all other prerequisites done and you want to attend the next fall apply as soon as possible. It sounds like you are on track with finishing the remaining prerequisites in the upcoming year. As long as your other science classes are looking good and you have other extracurriculars you will get an interview. Good luck!

pharmgrl, thats kind of my dilemma as well.. i have no other extracurriculars... my plan was to finish all of my science classes next summer and while i take OCHEM1 in the fall and OCHEM2 in the spring i wanted to get a part time job at a pharmacy (because i would only be taking 1 class each semester).... therefore, by the time i apply, i probably wont be working at a pharmacy.. should i still apply before the fall term?

=...my plan was to finish all of my science classes next summer and while i take OCHEM1 in the fall and OCHEM2 in the spring...

...so what science classes have you finished at this point?

this summer, i'm taking anat/phys 1 and a speech class... this fall, i plan on taking anat/phys 2 and chem 1... in the spring, taking chem 2 and microbio, in the summer of 05 taking biology 1&2 and physics 1&2 (4 classes, 2 in the 1st summer term, 2 in the second summer term).. then, the fall after that, o.chem 1 and the spring after that, ochem 2... so what do you recommend i do in regards to when i should apply/take pcats/etc

i encourage you to do some extra curr. stuff.
i know it's hard for you to do since u're loaded with courses, but do put some effort to do it coz pharm school don't just look at grades.
good luck

I would take the PCAT during the fall when you are taking Ochem 1. You'll have Gen Chem and Bio completed and that's a big chunk of the PCAT.

I don't know much about PharmCAS and haven't really been following threads on when to apply.

The important thing to ask yourself is if you can complete all the prerquisites by the time pharm school will begin. Since you will have more prerequisites to complete the end of next fall you won't be admitted until the following year. But this depends on each school, different schools have different classes they require so you will need to research the requirements of each school that you are interested in applying. As for the PCAT I know its offered several times...not exactly sure of the dates but...I suggest you research which schools you want to apply to b/c some schools do not require the exam (ie. All of California & Oregon and quite a few others in other states). If you happen to be only interested in those schools then u can save some time and money by not even having to take it 😀 I also suggest fitting some kind of volunteer work into your schedule. Anyways, hope this helps. Good luck!

Don't worry about it. A lot of people on the 2 year plan apply while taking Ochem 1&2 (i did). I sent in my application right before the priority deadline after the fall semester with my ochem 1 grades.

I plan on applying after summer term is over for Fall 2005 admission. I have my application complete except for personal statement, still struggling over that. I will be taking my PCAT in October. I will be taking Organic and Anatomy & Physiology I&II in Fall and Spring then picking up Biology II next summer.
