Are C's the end of me?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
i've got a C too. i dont have any interviews yet but i'm keeping my head up. the C was in organic chemistry sophomore year. you just really need to ace ALL of your classes junior and senior years. that will show med schools what level of dedication you are at AS you are applying to med school. that's a hell of a lot more important than the first two years when you're still discovering yourself and what not. i got straight As 3 out of my last 4 semesters in college and hopefully that will be my savior. if this is really what you want, keep your head up and bust your balls. you got it in you.

1. Take an upper-level Bio class (many options- Biochem, Genetics, Micro, Immuno, etc.) and do well in it.

2. Take an upper-level Chem class (Orgo- you have to anyways, Pchem, Achem, etc.)

You'll be fine. You've got time to cover up those C's. Just worry about keeping the grades up and studying for the MCAT at the same time. If you're taking April, schedule an easy Spring semester that year.

I have more than two C, one in Bio1, Calc and one in a non science. I have taken summer classes at community college, retook Bio, Calc and took an extra GE class to raise my GPA, compensate for C in sciences. You will be fine, (I'm getting interviews)

I have a D in Bio-cal (freshman) and a C+ in orgo, I don't have any interviews yet but I'd like to think that schools can see past those and focus on improvements since then (at least I hope so). I think the poster who suggested that you take upper level bio classes and ace them will show schools that you can shoulder the workload. I think it's important to show that you had an upward trend.

I have 2 C's of which med schools will see when I submit my app (well...in a couple years...I'm a 2nd year undergrad)...

a C in 2002 (sophomore in high school) in a community college bio class

and a C+ in 2004 (freshman in college) at university I attend now...

Now, the problem is that the C+ is in general chemistry...

So, I feel like I'm in some trouble...honestly, if I calculate my cumulative GPA up till now from all the college classes I've ever taken, it's a ~3.6, ~3.45BCPM (and optmistically, on the uppers 🙂 ), but, will C's be the end of me at top schools? I'm from Cali, so it'll definitely help in the financial department if I can get into a UC.

Gut reaction, what do you think? Worrying too much? or not?

No, 2 C's will not be the end of you. And yes, you are worrying too much.

as i mention in other threads.. i have about 5 or 6 Cs, to go along with a D and two "Withdrawn While Failing" grades. i already have one out-of-state interview and expect to get several others. do well on your MCATs, rebound with some As, and you'll be fine.

A lot of applicants have at least one C. One or two is not a big problem - multiple C's are. Don't get multiple C's and you'll be fine.

If you are getting Cs now, you will need to step up your studying a bit. You will look back and wish you could have done better at the beginning of your college life. Once you go upper division, it will become even harder to get A's. You want A's and B's in those classes, to prove that you are the cream of the crop.

It only gets harder from here as the competition gets stiffer. Good luck!

I had a C+ and C on my transcript and I have gotten 6 interviews so far. I just got back from GW yesterday!

You'll be fine. Just work on an upward trend of grades.

i had 4 or 5 C's in undergrad, and a few B-'s. thus far, this application season has been pretty decent to me. make sure you have an upward trend, and if you do a post-bac, then rock it. no excuses. oh, and the MCAT? shoot for 30+.

I have 3 C's:
Calculus 1 (but followed it with an A in Calc2, which is supposed to be harder)
Physics 1, I was a ******
Thermodynamics, class sucked and I sucked equally

But I did well on MCAT, 31; 11/9/11, so yeah...I'm hoping for the best

thanks for the input...for the purpose of bumping/others in my situation, anyone else have comments?

3 Cs and a D and things are working out ok thus far!

Not only did I have two C's - they were in BCPM classes. A C- in calc II (wouldn't have taken it, but it was required for my major!) and a C in pchem II (which many people were understanding of). My grades otherwise were good, not stellar. I had good MCATs, and here I am in med school 🙂.
