Are Cubans considered URMs?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I think AMCAS has a link on their site to a page that clarifies exactly what a URM is.

I would say yes! I'd be very surprised if they weren't

traditionally, urm was specifically for mexican, puerto rican, hawaiian, black and native american. cuban/south american was not considered a urm. but just this past month, aamc changed the "urm" definition and depending on the local cuban population need, medical schools will be able to determine whether cubans are urms. urm is now more broadly defined. check the aamc website.

usually if you have to ask, you're not.

AAMC's new classification is "Underrepresented in Medicine". Are there less cubans in medicine than their population would suggest? i dont know.

Only if you talk like Tony Montana. . .

"ya half a prolem main?"

If you sound white, then no. 🙄

That's gotta be one of the most memorable quotes from any movie. I think he could have killed everyone in his mansion had he noticed there was someone behind him and had unlimited ammo.

One of my MCAT students is Cuban and she said she is NOT considered a URM - but I would go by what the AAMC says.

True true.

Along with what other lines, I wonder?

"You can't handle the truth!"
"Adrian!!!"
