Are the people who work behind the counter at walgreens and Longs pharmacist or pharm techs?
Some of the people behind the counter are pharmacists and some of them are pharm techs. In most states, one pharmacist (two if the store is very busy) has to be present at all times to counsel patients, take rxs from the fax machine, fill the scheduled drugs, etc.
At my university's student pharmacy they used to send nonscheduled rxs over the fax all the time between doctor offices... and I've since had doctors fax rxs over to a pharmacy for me before. This was usually after talking to the doctor on the phone... it was to make sure that they had the signature on file.
Just how it was done at my college... sorry...
In WA a prescriber or prescriber's representative may fax in orders for alomst anything but a CII. And, CIIs can be faxed for hospice patients.
Thank you Banana!
I was just imagining that it must only be pharmacists who pull those faxed prescription off the fax machine. You know, only pharmacists can touch those precious pieces of paper.
