Are rotation locations generally flexible?

Hey all,

I'm soon to be an MSI at GW, and had a question about rotations. I've looked through the documentation provided by the school, but can't find anything regarding doing rotations at hospitals not in their 'circle' or 'affiliation' or whatever you want to call it. I'm interested for two reasons:

1) If your school doesn't offer a rotation in the immediate area for a certain specialty (I'm thinking aerospace medicine).

2) You plan on applying for residency on the opposite coast and would like to rotate through the perspective locations.

I may be asking a stupid question, I just never saw it spelled out anywhere that this was allowed. I know of quite a few schools (Osteopathic mostly) that require rotations in other states, but only allows them in affiliated hospitals. So I guess I'm confused as to what/where you're allowed to rotate through.

Thanks!

Most schools will allow you to do 4th year electives "away" especially for non-core fields. Check with GW with regards to whether or not all of your core rotations *ie, 3rd year) are done at GW or if you have the opportunity to do some elsewhere.

Aerospace med will fall under the electives category and I'm sure you can arrange it as a 4th year away rotation.

All of our third-year rotations are done at hospitals within the state, but during fourth year, you're allowed to go pretty much anywhere to do an away rotation or three.
