Yes, medical schools are notorious for their "weeding out" of black students. Blacks are often held to much higher academic standards because these schools are so racist (after all, the vast majority of academia is white).
In the recent Grutter vs. University of Michigan Supreme Court case, blacks had to sue for equal treatment under the laws. Their argument was based on the 14th amendment and the 1964 civil rights act which states:
??2000d - No person in the United States shall, on the ground of race, color, or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.?
Fortunately, the Supreme Court ruled that the schools can not discriminate on the basis of race; therefore blacks should be treated the same as everyone else regardless of their race. This ruling helped us keep the anti-discriminatory practice known as Affirmative Action.
