Are they required or something?

My gpa didnt go up (it went down a little) and I havent become involved in any new EC's. Should I still send schools my grades + ec's even though I think its pointless?

Update letters aren't required. Some schools have indicated they are receptive to updates, others seem indifferent. Some posters see this as a way of conveying continued interest in a school, or at least forcing them to dust off (and maybe even take another look at) your file. My gut is it couldn't hurt, but unless you've done something major since your last correspondence it probably won't help much either. (A person I spoke with in admissions candidly said that they are so inundated with paper these days that you are lucky if it even gets into the correct file before they review it.)
Not sure about whether you need to send updated grades at this juncture (I was done with school before I applied) but if a school accepts you, the acceptance will usually be contingent on getting adequate (C or better) grades in your yet unreported classes.
