HELP! I just found out from the other thread that the Nov 3 deadline for Western University isn't the postmark date! Is this really true?
OMGOSH I'm panicking so much after staying up all saturday night to sunday morning to finish all those essays.
Are we allowed to go to the campus and turn it in directly?
That seems like the only option I have left right now 🙁
How would I even do this, which office do I go to?

Should be fine... I turned in my transcripts to USC in person. Call ahead since there might be 3 different places to go for different things.

if thats the case.. then I have to.. been working too hard on this to just let it go at the last minute. Its only a 2 hours drive from San Diego..but I do have a packed day of classes/lab tomorrow....sigh..

I'm not sure if Western accepts the applications that are postmarked on 11/3/08, but last year, it was noted in the application checklist that applicants can submit their applications as long as they postmark it by the deadline.

I don't see why they would change it this year, but just to be on the safe side, I would submit the application in person. Like confettiflyer has said, give them a call early in the morning and find out where you need to drop it off. Or better yet, also ask them whether they accept applications just as long as it's postmarked.

This year, I didnt see any sign of the word "postmarked" but I hope it'll be ok for those that live far away. Do you also when the office is open? I've looked everywhere on the website and can't find hours anywhere😕

Call the school in the morning before deciding to drive all the way out there... I'd put money that the deadline is by the POSTMARKED date but should definitely call/email to confirm

I'm going to ask first whether they will accept the application if it's postmarked on Nov 3. If not, then I guess I'll have to...
according to google maps, its about 30 minutes away, 1 hour with traffic...

I can't remember running into an application due date that is anything BUT postmark deadlines. It's too much of a moving target for them to say that it must be received by a certain day. I'm pretty sure they let you postmark it by then.

That was what really worried me. It's weird that I'm actually anticipating for Nov 3 to come so that I can call and find out! o.o lol

I was wondering the same thing about USC's supp... I turned mine in Nov 2nd and the system took the application, didn't mark it as 'late' or any other notation, I took it as a good sign!

I agree with you FresnoPharmD, I'd assume that a deadline submission date = postmarked date

I wonder if there are any applicants from previous years who submitted their application for Western which was postmarked on the day of the deadline, and their app was still accepted? In any case, I think we'll all find out soon enough.

What's up with all of these deadline mismatches/ambiguities? First UCSD (but at least there was an announcement on their site), then Western, now USC...I hope next year the directions are more clear so procrastinators like myself have one less thing to stress about...

You can still call USC tomorrow and if they honor the Nov 3 deadline, you have some time to turn it in.

I'd like to know that too. I worked so freaken hard on those 2 essays for several weeks w/out realizing I'd have to send in my transcripts. 😡 I tried to call them too, but can't get a hold of their admissions office, it asks me to leave my name and phone number but I want to be able to speak to some in person.

No, but it's very straightforward from what I remember - not too long, only 2 essays you have to write, one 2000 characters, one 3000 and you have to write the first essay on a given topic and for the 2nd essays you chose between 2 different topics. Then you fill out 4 different forms of pre-req courses and there are a couple pages biographical information. It didn't take me too long to fill out, I remember it only took me about an hour and something but I've written my essays prior and just copied and pasted them.

I wrote them because some kind SDNer posted the topics on this board a while ago and I confirmed the topics (just to be sure) with my friends who were filling out the apps several weeks ago.


It took me a few weeks to write them but simply because I wanted them to be perfect, so I went to the English tutoring center in my school and had them go over my essays with me and help me make them stronger. The topics are really not that difficult.
