Hi,

I am hoping to get into the University of Georgia pharmacy school. I was looking on their web site and I saw that the last year is all clerkships. I was wondering if anyone knew if you were paid for these or not.

Thanks

I guess not. It's part of the training in the pharmacy profession.

I didn't think so, I was just curious. Thanks.

From what I know, pharmacy students who get paid are the ones who work at extra hours at different stores (? or the same maybe...), and yeah, they get paid pretty well... 👍

Depends on what you mean by paid.

AACP allows the host pharmacy to pay for room and boarding expenses during a stay (go Flagstaff!). Our school has such a relationship with Yuma Regional, Yavapai (Prescott), Sierra Vista, and Flagstaff. Sometimes, stipends are paid for extenuating circumstances like for an inability to get food or supplies like the IHS. The key point here is that money or goods are given to the student to defray living and travel expenses, not for services rendered.

Officially, we are not supposed to be paid for services rendered or be an active employee for the pharmacy where the clerkship is held. I know of exceptions to both of the above statements, but not many.

I worked about 30 hours outside during my clerkship years at $24/hr. It can be done.

Unfortunately, clerckships are not paid for, since you receive school credit. And not only are you working without pay, you are actually still paying tuition, since you are working and earning credits. So, technically, for 1 year, you are paying someone else to let you work! You gotta love it!
