I'm confused about the estimated family contribution. I was told by one dental school that anyone can take the full amount of loans (even if your family is the Trump family.).

NO. That is only an estimated amount of what the government thinks you can afford to pay. In reality, not many families can afford to shell out this kind of cash each semester, and they end up taking out loans to cover this portion of the tuition. 🙂
