Lol - whoops I was so excited I didn't see you had posted the first AZ acceptance already. Congrats Sundevil! As for whether or not I'll see ya there? I really have no idea at this point. I've been accepted at NYU in addition to UA and I am still waiting on a bunch of other schools. It is gonna be a very tough decision - though I am fortunate to be able to be in this position. As all the AZ appectance people get in we will have to discuss the pros/cons of our beloved UA...

PS - thanks for the kind words Trek!

Congrats jargon ;) and congrats sundevil1 :D

they send you an email? Damn, wish I got one. I guess I have to wait...........more........

btw, my warmest congratulations to Jargon and Sundevil. When did you guys interview?

Congratulations, Jargon

Thanks to Kadyra, Joseph, and ewells for the words of congratulations. Yes, the acceptance came by email this morning, and it indicates that the certified letter has been mailed. I sincerely hope that all of you who didn't get in this round have some good news in mid-Feb.

I have to say, it's funny how getting into a school makes you more fond of it...I mean I guess you just look at it more positively than before...I dunno, I'm rambling...time to celebrate - good thing it's Friday!

I told Joe and ewells that I'd post here this morning after I called the College of Medicine. The lady I spoke with said that they anticipate sending out their next round of acceptances on time--around February 15 and then March 15 for the last round. She told me to call back Friday to get a definite date.

Hey guys - just thought I'd confirm what Kadyra said...I just came from the admissions office - and the ladies in there are so incredibly nice. They kept congratulating me until I was red (and with my brown skin it's hard for that to happen ;) ). Anyway, they said they sent out a third of their acceptances on Friday and another third goes out mid-Feb with the last third going out mid-March. Also, interestingly, they are gonna post a list in the hallway of the admissions office with the names of all the accepted students. Kinda cool that we can see who our potential classmates are gonna be.

Given my options right now (NYU vs. UA), I am leaning towards UA. Go figure. :)

The latest rumor (and this is third-hand info) is that the only applicants considered for this round of acceptances were those whose entire file was complete in October, so don't jump off any bridges yet just because you have not been accepted.

Well, I didn't hear this today when I called. Of course, I didn't ask who they were considering. The nice ladies in the admissions office told me that the admissions committee was trying very hard to get the next round of acceptances out by the end of next week, and if not by then, then definitely before the middle of the month.

So, it could be another week of nail-biting.

One more week I can deal with! That's better news than when I thought it was going to be the 15th...although that isn't exactly ruled out either. Hmmmm...I hate waiting. Maybe this experience is designed to teach me some patience.

bump....so is it this Friday? Maybe I should call on Wednesday to confirm.

Eh, I couldn't wait. I just called. She said "mid-February", but to call at the end of the week for an exact date. Looks like it won't be this Friday, after all......

We're falliiiiiiinnnnnnnnng.......NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

bump

LOL. Ok, well in an effort to keep this thread up, I just wanted to share that you can do your entire third and fourth years in Phoenix if you want - there is a "Phoenix campus". I had no idea, so it was kinda cool to hear about it.

Mid-February. Ugh. First my flu won't go away, and now I hear Mid-February. I think that is a sign telling me I should go back to bed and stay there until further notice.

Hope you feel better, Kadyra. And I'm positive that you'll get that lucky email by the end of next week! :)

And regarding the Phoenix program; I looked into it and if I'm accepted here (fingers crossed), I think I'd like to do my neuro rotation at Barrow Neurological Institute (however it's exactly called). I think that'd be a great experience.

I have a feeling that next week may be the lucky week for a lot of us, Joe. And I am sure I will feel better soon. I got worn down by the flu and got bronchitis-- the nurse I saw prescribed a PINT of cough syrup with codeine for me. A PINT!!! Crazy.

How is the weather and everything in Phoenix anyways? I'm living in Seattle at the moment, and I miss home. I miss the clubs too.

If I go to U of A I'm definately going to spend my clinicals in the Phoenix area. (Not that I'll be doing much clubbing then ;-)

However, last week, we had snow down here in the valley. It has been a very weird winter.

I will probably do at least one rotation up in Phoenix if I can bribe one of the people I know up there to let me stay with them. That is of course, if I am accepted. U of A's website has a link to a guide some students made to getting through the 3rd year. I read some of it and it tells you where you can get the best experiences for each rotation. Some of the Phoenix hospitals were listed over the Tucson sites. The link is in the student section of the website.

When, oh when! I forgot to call the admissions office today; I'll do it tomorrow. She should have a definite date. I'm betting on next Friday the 15th though. I think I almost freaked when I got that email from the UofA College of Medicine Financial Aid Office last week!

I didn't get one... Did you e-mail them first?

OK so I'm paranoid. I blame my meds. They are doing funky things to me. This has been a very bad 2 weeks.

Ack! I didn't get an email from the financial aid office either. . . .

Man.. it's so tough not to overanalyze everything. I guess thats the problem of a forum full of analytical people. ;-)

OK...this is the email that I got:

January 2002

Dear Applicant to the College of Medicine:

We are pleased to provide you with information regarding financial aid at
the University of Arizona College of Medicine. We are sending this to all
applicants so that you will be able to meet the priority service date of
March 1, 2002 and have the opportunity for full consideration of all types
of aid if you are admitted.

If you believe that you will need financial aid, we strongly suggest that
you begin by applying through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid
(FAFSA). The federal Website address is http://www.fafsa.ed.gov and our
school code is 001083. Students who apply by the priority service date are
considered by the University of Arizona for grant funds in addition to
loans; it also insures sufficient time for the financial aid office to
prepare your aid for our College of Medicine start date in July
2002. Apply while you are waiting for a decision on your application for
admission. To be considered for all types of aid at the University of
Arizona, your FAFSA application must be received at the federal processor
by March 1, 2002. We suggest you "Give Yourself a Valentine" and apply by
February 14 to allow for mail time, heavy Website traffic, or other delays.

For information about the aid process, various state and federal aid
programs, scholarship programs, and choosing a lender for the Federal
Stafford Loan, please review our Website at
http://www.medicine.arizona.edu/financial-aid. You may apply through the
FAFSA on the web or by mail to the federal processor. Upon your notice of
acceptance, submit other applications to the College of Medicine Financial
Aid Office. PLEASE USE THE CHECKLIST BELOW to note your completed
applications and dates mailed or delivered. If you do not have easy access
to the Internet, contact Sherri McClellan by calling (520) 626-7145 or by
e-mail at [email protected] and she will send you printed information.

We wish you well in your pursuit of a medical education. Please feel free
to contact the College of Medicine Financial Aid Office at (520) 626-7145
if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Maggie Gumble

Thanks Joseph, I never got that. I'll have to check that they have my email (still) correct. The post helps.

I also received that email, on Jan. 29th to be exact...strange that some of us got the email while others did not...

OK....I'm the official bearer of bad news. For me anyway. Here it goes. This Monday when I talked to the admissions committee to ask what date the next round was going out,the lady who answered the phone told me that, "we don't know the exact date. Sometime in mid-February. Call at the end of the week and we can give you an exact date." I said thanks, ok.

Now it's Friday. I decided to call again. About 20 minutes ago. She answered (I wasn't sure if it was the same lady) and I asked, "I'm sure you get asked this a lot, but when is the next round of acceptances going out?" She calmly replied, "They went out today." I said, "Oh, thank you."

TODAY!!?? So I checked my email...nothing..nothing...nothing from the U of A. It's become realistic that I might not be able to stay in AZ for medical school. I know it's not over yet, mid March, but it's a bit crushing. I mean, I was accepted to another state school with less than a 4% chance statistically, and my own state school I didn't...with I think a 20% chance. Yeah, I'm complaining like a mofo. That's ok...just let me vent a bit.

Joe

Sorry Joseph, I hope you make the next round - good luck!

Thanks jargon!

Yeah I also called the admissions office today. The e-mails went out this morning and those lucky enough to get one will get a packet in the mail tomorrow. I am not a lucky person, unfortunately for me. So I have to get pepped up so I don't frighten little kids (that infected me with the flu 2 weeks ago) when I volunteer tonight. Maybe I should frighten them.

It's annoying. The whole process. Going through it a second time, I have begun to wonder about my sanity. Would a sane person really subject themselves to this more than once?

Hey guys,

I KNOW you already know this, but don't give up yet. There is still a third of the class to be filled, and ~25 waitlist spots (we know how active the Arizona waitlist is)! So, keep ya heads up - I'm lookin at you Joe and Kadyra!

Just thought I'd bump this, since supposedly movement should happen soon.

I thought there wasn't going to be any movement until mid-March?

•••quote:•••Originally posted by Joseph Reses:
•sigh•••••I second that sigh.

Has anyone called the admissions office lately? I mean since last Friday? I doubt they'd know how on-schedule they'd be at this point in time, but I am getting neurotic at this point.

By the way. I did manage to ask my stepmom for money tonight and she said yes and that it was no problem. All that worrying for nothing :)

Any acceptees going to the MSRP luncheon tomorrow? If so, I'll see you there! :)

Are you trying to make me feel worse Jargon?

just kidding..actually, the luncheon sounds pretty cool, but I'm surprised they don't wait until they have all the acceptances, at least the initial ones go out.

Kadyra, that's great to hear about the money! I knew you'd get up the nerve. Bet you feel much more at ease now that you've got that burden taken care of.

Hey Joseph,

Oh man, I hope you didn't take it like that - Sorry if it came off like I was asking with malice - you all know that's not my intention. :) Anyway, there are three such luncheons scheduled - this was just the first of the three. So, WHEN (not if) you all get in mid-March, you will have the opportunity to go as well.

The Dean's Welcome, held March 1, is a different story. I really think its strange that they aren't gonna wait and hold it after the final round of acceptees. However, in that case as well, I think they are gonna repeat (in some form) it in May - so everyone will have the equivalent of it...Good luck all.

No worries, mate! I know it wasn't your intention. Thanks for the encouraging words!!

Oh, am I just off target? I thought someone said they were going to release a round near the 15th (today) and then another round in mid March. Anyone know differently? :)

Those acceptances that were supposed to go out today actually went out last Friday, 2/8. The next round is the mid-March one. We'll hear then, I'm sure of it.

memo to all UofA applicants who haven't got in yet. Chill out. You guys sound paranoid...go snowbaording, hit the gym, play some ball, hit on some chicks, do anything besides whining about not hearing anything from them yet. Oh yeah, and stop calling the admissions office, I'm sure they will let us all know when they have made their decisions. Keep in mind you have med-students, professors, and admissions faculty working around the clock to put together the best possible class for 2006. Give them a break. Peace
