At what point do you say no?

Case being: On two waitlists. Now only holding one acceptance. Only difference between two schools at this point is cost. At what point do you say enough is enough and withdrawl from the waitlist or say no if they call you? When your stuff is moved in?

Any thoughts would be helpful!

I guess it just really depends how important it is to you. For my top choice school I would have re-packed and travelled back across country the day before classes. But that was based on a great many reasons for wanting to be there, as well as price. It will also depend on if you have a significant other or other reasons why advanced planning *really* is necessary. If, as you say, the only difference at this point is price, I guess it depends how much of a difference in price exists and whether you will therefore regret not waiting on the cheaper option coming through.

While the only difference may be cost, remember that cost is a very important matter for all but the very rich. Cost will not affect you for the next four years, rather, it will hit you later on. Cost will potentially affect your choice of residency, and loan payments will definitely affect how comfortably you live during the repayment period.

It is probably too early to give up on a waitlist; movement will probably begin in the coming weeks.

Why don't you just stay on the waitlists(assuming these are schools you want to go to)? Make plans for the school you have been accepted to. If one of the waitlists come through, make the decision then. Cross that bridge if you get there. If you happen to get a phone call as you are moving into your original accepted school then decide then. If I got off a waitlist at that point i would probably decline that school's offer. However, I don't see why one would close the door on a waitlist from a school they would like to attend. If you get off the waitlist, worry about it at that point in time.

I think that even if I drove all the way across the country, signed a lease, moved in, and bought a few house plants, I'd still go to a UC if they called and pulled me off a waitlist, even if it was just as I was half way through signing my name on the matriculation papers. I guess it just depends on how much the cost difference is going to be.
