Thank you for taking that butt much ferrillo off our hands. He has got to be the most arrogant, careless SOB I have ever known. Don't expect him to know any of your names, nevertheless wave or even smile to you. He is all about himself and what the "public" thinks of him. Good riddens...

Its interesting to see the different opinions of the same man
This was from another thread

Name of dental school: UNLV SODM
Current year: 3rd
Things you like about the school: The DEAN, this guy gets it done! I think he is the greatest asset to our school, a real mover and shaker. Faculty have a great attitude and are willing to help (for the most part). Facilities (brand new everything), technology (love my laptop, especially for games ), willingness to adapt curriculum based on student input, innovative ideas. Patient pool is huge, no shortage here. On and ON.

Things you wish to be changed: Mostly little annoying stuff that people tell me happens at everyschool. Biggest beef=subjective grading in certain classes.

Any other comment:Since I hope to specialize I was wary about attending UNLV. I had my doubts many times, even through my first year. But I can honestly say now that I DON'T regret my decision one bit. I think that it is a great school and in a few years it will be AWESOME. If I were applying today and knowing everything I know today I wouldn't hesitate a second about coming here

If you go back and look at the thread you quoted, the above quote was given by UNLV OMS Wannabe, not unlv dmd.

The two people that replied, please don't reply again unless you read the whole post, because it really makes you look stupid.
I said it was opinoins of the same man, not from the same person, hello. And I also said it was a quote from a different thread, not from me, yes I am a first year and yes the quote was from a third year.
Too many poeple on this website that don't have a clue

I had the SAME opinion about him as did the third year that said he gets things done. I agree with that still, to some degree. However, in this past year I have realized that he "gets things done" without giving a crap about the student body. Do you realize he will walk over to B building to get food and walk by a lobby full of students and not say ONE WORD to us? He doesn't even acknowledge our presence. He even has a secretary send out "his" emails to us. He literally thinks we are worth nothing. I dunno... just my opinion.

The old Dean at Tennessee (before the current one) would do exactly that, but it was because he didn't recognize us. We used to joke that the Dean was like the Wizard of Oz....nobody had ever seen him. At that level, they're really just a politician anyway.

I agree with you. Experienced that first hand. Did anybody know or even care when he moved his office across the street. Hopefully we will get a more student friendly Dean in the future.

Honestly, I wasn't impressed with him when he visited the campus. I'm still wary of him. I don't know what it's going to be like with him around, but I'm one of the few people who think it's not going to be any good. However, the other two candidates that made it to the final round were just as bad. I honestly don't know what the selection committee was thinking. Most of the student body wanted Dr. Yarborough, but the current president of Pacific hasn't selected an in-house applicant his entire tenure.

I think we are in for a rough ride with UNLV's ferillo. We asked him about the orthodontics debaucle in Las Vegas, and he made it sound like it was the best idea in the world. Essentially, I think he wanted money and he couldn't get enough from the state and there were no alumni to beg from, so instead of pounding the pavement and knocking on doors, he sold out to OEC. I'm seriously concerned that he might pull some stupid stuff like that here. I hope I'm wrong.

Yikes. It's too bad Dugoni had to retire. I'm looking forward to UoP but I hope this new dean doesn't screw things up.

I'm not an oec fan, but I do see why he did it. It was the only way for UNLV to be able to build a building for all of the other specialties to be housed in. The OEC is forking over millions (30) for the building that we will have the pedo, perio, ortho, and endo specialties in atleast that is what old Ferillo tells us. He really is a politician, a good one at that. This school is pretty sweet and it hasn't even been 4 years yet. Hopefully he is a little more friendly with the little people over in San Fran.

Basically he cheapened orthodontics by selling out to OEC, so that he could accomplish his own political goals. I think its shady. Certainly not something Dr. Dugoni would have done. Dr. Dugoni is the type of guy who (if he were in a similar situation) would have gone from door to door speaking with orthodontists about what a negative impact OEC would have on dentistry. He would have convinced all of the orthodontists in Nevada to work together and come up with the $30 million dollars needed to start the program. In fact, he probably would have talked with orthodontists all around the country, since a program like OEC is harmful to orthodontists everywhere.

Maybe Ferrillo will be metaphorically handcuffed by current faculty, alumni, and Dr. Dugoni (who will still be around). I hope so.

That is exactly the type of guy he is... and then when you ask for some explanations all he gives you is a segway into a different subject. It is almost comical how his answers to the "bad questions" make no sense and he changes the subject and moves on before you can even say "Hey... wait a minute 😕 " OH well. I think he will have WAY less power on what goes on at an established school. I must say that UNLV is a great school, but not because of him.

Me too, although word drifting about is that "what happens in Vegas may not stay in Vegas."

so what is oec?

An evil, evil conspiracy. There are plenty of old threads (repleat with opinions galore) on the topic...but I'm too lazy to search for myself.

Though not all feel this way (obviously). As with any issue, there are two sides to the story, and certainly opinions galore as has been mentioned.
