hey guys,

Do y'all kno if there will be any audio/video media questions on the USMLE Step 1. I noticed these new media questions in the 2007 CBT Practice/Orientation program.

I'm taking mine on june 11th and haven't seen any NBME announcements so hopefully the 2 month rule is true!

one aspect I have heard about these questions is that you don't really need the audio/visual part to answer the question (not sure how true this is since I haven't yet taken the sample orientation material questions)

another thing I heard (and this is something I can't confirm) is that these will be experimental questions since they are being tried out for the first time

Check out the questions on the 2007 CBT. You really need the media to answer the questions. One of them has a cartoon chest where you're asked to auscultate in different areas to see if there are CV abnormalities.

I emailed NBME and they said this:

We have not been provided with a specific date yet as to when they will officially be in all tests, a note will be posted on the website when the start date is scheduled. They will allow at least a month of notice I believe so it's possible it won't be implemented before your 6/11 test date.
I regret I could not be of more help.

From USMLE.org : "Multiple-choice items with associated media clips will be introduced in USMLE examinations no earlier than Summer 2007. An announcement will be posted to the USMLE website approximately 2 months before any items with associated media clips appear on an actual USMLE examination. Additional information will be posted to the USMLE website as it becomes available."
