Auditions necessary for AOA IM?

How important are audition rotations for applying to low-mid tier AOA IM programs for someone with a slightly below overage level 1?

I mean auditions are good for a lot of reasons. At very least, you can get an idea of the type of training you'd get there. That said, it's not required to match AOA IM.
