Hi future md's:

I am at UCLA right now doing undergrad and I am a new transfer there from a community college.

I think I would do better taking the august mcat, but I am worried that It will ruin my chances.

I was wondering if you can give me advice on the best way to study for the mcat? I bought a new 2004 Kaplan mcat test prep book but don't know how exactly to start. I will also take a prep course in the summer but want to start reviewing.

I am applying to only 15 schools. I am really interested in the UCLA/Drew program or other schools with the same mission. Anyhow, what schools are safety schools that I should apply to that would take students with 3.0-3.4 GPA's in the U.S? I am just curious because I looked at MSAR but all the schools have average GPA's of 3.5 and above. I am sure you guys know which schools are not that hard to get into? I just really want to know which schools are safety schools?

Any advice would be appreciated. thanks😉

I can't help you with a list of "easy" schools, but I just want to let you know that the April MCAT might not be a big reach. I was caught up in Division I athletics last year, didn't start studying for the April MCAT until right around the second week of March, didn't take a test-prep course (didn't have the $$), and did pretty good (32R, although looking back I think I could have done better, oh well). I just learned my big fat Kaplan book AND my orgo text forwards and backwards. Seeing how it isn't Feb. yet, you'd have a big jump on me. Personally, I think being a June/July applicant would be much better for you with your gpa than waiting until crunch time in August. Consider busting your butt now, and sparing yourself some angst. 🙂
