This is Jason from the AZCOM 2006 classes. I have been going to Midwestern for 2 years now (masters program) and I'm anxious to meet my classmates...

Also, if anyone is looking for a place to stay, check out the housing section.

I HAVE A ROOM FOR RENT!

Thanks,
Jason

Hi Jason! I, too, will be starting this fall. The students that I have corresponded with from our class so far have been very nice.

Enjoy your summer and I look forward to meeting you!

I too will be anxiously awaiting the opportunity to meet all of you. I think this is going to be an awesome experience for all of us. Talk to you guys later.

We definitely need to plan some sort of get-together during the week of orientation. By the way Jason...I'm Jason as well.

I am probably going to be moving my stuff up to Glendale the first weekend in August and then moving my dog and myself up there on the 17th. I need to work that extra time so I don't starve to death, which would be bad right before school starts  Although my brother has said that I can just eat at his house whenever I want. It's a bit of a drive but still. Anyway, I digress. I have a weird tendency to go off on tangents, which I am sure you will all figure out sooner or later :D But I think having some sort of get-together around orientation time would be a great idea. We can work that out when it gets closer.

Count me in on a get together...let's make it after the 17th.
Jrich - sorry I haven't gotten back to you, I had to measure my furniture! There will be room for your boxes and book shelf. I will pm you closer to Aug 15 to work out the logistics.

I'm all for a get together, but i'm not moving to AZ until Aug. 24th according to the on-campus housing guy at the school. So, if it's after that i'm in.......

Im with titan on that one. Check in isnt until Aug 24th in the on-campus apartments. Its gonna be hot!!

Later days

About an orientation get together...

My good friends Nick/Tom are hosting a weekend before school PARTY!

I will have one that weekend too, or the first weekend after school starts (and before the first of many, many tests starts...)

Jason

PDAs- most students (of the about 1/3 that have them) have Palm compatibles, with new Sony's being the most popular... not that i would know anything about it, but there are some "useful" burnt CD's floating around too...

Weight room- it's small, free weights, 2 treadmills, stairmaster, bike, a few machines...
serious lifters/exercise seem to join LA fitness...

Golf- there is a group of students that play golf at least once a week, who needs class anyways.... that might change since they are third years now...

Soccer- we try and play soccer ever friday afternoon... attendence has been dwindling, hoefulyl our class can keep it up though...

jason, i'm a jason also, i have an ipaq which makes compatibility pretty tough but i love the thing!! i have a nice lil 5 min. exam program that is super helpful. i was going to be meeting up with you all this year but have defered till 2007 b/c my wife is having triplets! so by next year, any of you in on-campus housing will hear them crying away

Well JD (sport) and I are planning on bbqing often. He likes to do it and I like to do it, and since we are rooming together.... He is off camping somewhere these days, I guess. But I like entertaining. A lot. So after the 24th then. Or after orientation. That'll be good.

Speaking of golf, anyone have any idea about how much green fees are?

Hello all,
I'm in minneapolis for a few days with a friend and thought I might drop a line. Glacier National Park was great, I drove out in a crazy snow storm and then to MN in 2 very long days. Anyway, a get-together or two or three sounds fun.

Jason_azcom, did you send me the message about a realitor? If you did, thanks. I tried to send a message from Idaho, but the computor I was on was doing some funny things. Anyway, I have been working with one for the past few months and so I don't need one. But I may have a lot of other questions for you in the mean time. I will be in Glendale around July 1. if you will be around lets get together.

Happy father's day to jhug and any other fathers that I don't know about

I got to play with my 9 1/2 month old nephew on Tuesday and Wednesday because my brother and sister-in-law were in Phoenix visiting from Missouri. My nephew is trying so hard to walk! I just can't believe how much he has grown since Halloween when I saw him last. Simply amazing :D

My stepdad has started giving me things that I might need after I move. I think I have enough tupperware for about 5 people. Poor guy. He keeps asking if I am going to come down here and visit or if I will just forget about him. He is silly. It just reminds me that the move is getting closer and closer and closer!!!

kad-- why thank you very much!! i must say my first fathers day was quite uneventful, we are in the hospital trying to keep these lil buggers in there as long as possible. it really isn't a big deal- more of a preventative thing, but it is a fun, EXPENSIVE, hotel with really neat beds!! Plus i like talking to the 3,4th year student that rotate through here. because we are having triplets (and my wife is tiny) every morning i wake up to about 11 people poking and proding my poor lil babies. I'll tell you though, i really like the preceptor idea-- all the 3rd years are in the enterance to the room while the perinatologist, ob's, interns, residents, and 4th years are pushing even me out of the way!!!

11 people jhug????? That is terrible. Your poor wife! :( My sister-in-law complained about being poked and prodded just by her doctor when she was pregnant. I cannot imagine 11 people. Out of curiosity, are you planning on moving out here this year or next year?

kad-- i deferred this year so i'll work and change a ton of diapers before i move out this time next year. i will probably take a few classes to keep me up on the school thing. today i bought krispy kremes for all those poor students following around the docs/residents-- i just couldn't help but feel for them standing in the door way!!!!

I just returned from my 3 day phoenix apartment hunting venture....I have to say that even a dry 110 is still pretty darn hot. yes a humid 110 degrees would be worse.
I looked at every apt that i could find that would take a 65lb dog and had apts for less than $600 ( I am cheap). My tops are Sagewood (on 59th Ave) and Copper Palms ( way over on Cave Creek). Some other cheap alternatives include Terracina (BellAve), Bay Club (28th Dr), Summit (N.Paradise Valley Dr), and Carleton Club (19thave).
I had fun timing my future daily commute to school! If anyone has any horror stories about one or more the properties I listed....please drop me a line.

Jhug - You were so sweet to bring donuts! I am sure that your good donut karma will be repaid in your future career.

It's supposed to be 111 down here in Tucson today. So that means it should probably be about 115 up in the Phoenix area. I have a horrible feeling that the day I move up there, it will be like 125.

I haven't heard anything bad about those apartment complexes, Sugar, but I didn't visit any of them in my travels so..... But if you liked them when you saw them, I am sure they are fine. Just make sure none of them are south of Peoria. The street in Glendale, I mean. That is the bad area of town with lots of shootings and stuff.

jhug you are so sweet to do that for everyone!

Has anyone else noticed that new student orientation starts on August 21, yet we cannot move in to on-campus housing until August 24?

Orientation doesn't really begin on the 21st...I know it says that in one of the first booklets we received. I think it is posted on one of the AZCOM threads....try the preosteo forum. I think orientation is the 26th.

Don't quote me on it, but I thought Aloha Kid said orientation was August 28-30 and that school began September 3. I keep waiting for them to post the calendar on the main MWU page. It is very frustrating.

The handbook I received has orientation Aug 28-30th.

K - that sounds right. I figured we would probably get something about the same time we got our financial aid info. I have so many other things to stress about I haven't been worried about it at all!

Jrich - when did you get your handbook? is the little book with your titer requirements or is it some new and exciting book that I can look forward to receiving!

Sugar,
Nothing new and exciting..just the book you receive with the acceptance stuff. I am waiting for something from the financial office...like an award letter. I thought we would have more info by now. Has anyone heard anything yet from them?

I called the financial aid office about a month ago and found out that my stafford loan application had mysteriously disappeared at the loan place (where exactly that is I don't know!)so MWU gave me a number to call and I had to fill out another one over the phone and have them send it to me to sign. I just called back last week and they (all powerful loan people) were still waiting for certification from AZCOM. So that means that AZCOM hadn't put together their packages yet. The financial office said that they may still need to contact students for verification. I will feel nervous about it until the award letter is in my hot little hands.

ps

I seem to recall last year that people in the osteo forum didn't receive their financial aid letters until late July.

Perhaps I should call the financial aid office today as well.... I'd hate to think that they didn't have my loan application. Well actually, earlier this year they didn't. They had me down as not needing any federal money <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" /> I'm also going to call them and ask about the schedule for this year's vacations and all that. The one on the website isn't updated, which is annoying because I'd like to plan some vacation stuff in advance

Jason (Jason_AZCOM),

WHAT'S UP BUDDY!? This is Andy, I was in the MBS program at MWU last year with Nick/Tom. Just want to congratulate you on your acceptance to AZCOM, you've earned it! Did Brian get in?

While you guys party AZ style with those two goofballs Nick and Tom, I'll be partying FL style! Good to hear your good news and it was great hanging with you and Brian last year!

K
I talked to the financial aid office again and they said that packages will go out at the end of July and if they need anything they will ask via azwebmail. The award packages are supposed to be delivered via azwebmail too.

you all must be really busy b/c this thread has been a bit slow! I find i have quite a bit of time in the hospital :)

I got a packet in the mail from AZCOM either yesterday or Tuesday with orientation info and a vacation/exam schedule. Finally. It has a bunch of other stuff in it too. I can't believe I'm going to be moving in just over a month. I am getting all excited now. Crazy ;)

I just got my packet today. Crazy to think that we'll be in school in just over a month. Wow. I graduated from my undergrad in 2001 and have been working for the past year -- crazy how the time has gone by so quickly, when looking back.

I got my packet today too! I am so excited. Iknow there was some talk earlier in the year about the white coat ceremony. Does anyone remember if we found out a date. My parent want to come. Is it usually on a Saturday? Any ideas?

I found an apartment...it is like 15 minutes from school but boy is it cheap!
-Michelle

this must be super exciting for all of you! is anyone planning on taking the med. spanish class?? i talked to the teacher today about sending me some of his stuff so i can teach the new employees at the clinic where i work. He sounds like a very nice guy and the class sounds really helpful. Just a little spanish advertisement:)

Si, jhug. Quiero ir al Guatemala con DOCARE pero necessito mucho ummmmm practice!

pero is but and perro is dog right? that could really change the whole idea behind my sentence!
I took three years of Spanish in college, but that was 6 years ago!

It has been so long since I have been in school, I was hit with a giant fist of anxiety last night. It is a good thing I love a challenge.

Hello all,

What are these packets everyone's receiving? I have been homeless and slightly out of touch for the past two months while moving down to Glendale. I did talk to the F.A. office and they told me the F.A. information will be delivered via azwebmail. Has anybody received that info?

Anyway, though technically homeless now, I soon will not be. That being said, I am looking for a third roommate to share roomy 4bedroom/2.5bath house with another classmate, Kadyra and myself. The house is about 1.5 miles away from school, around 47th ave and Union Hills. If anyone is interested send me a private message and I can give you all the details.

John

The packets consist of a nice little outline about student orientation, which is August 28-30, and matriculation / vacation days for the upcoming school year, along with some information about a couple of clubs that you can join for the upcoming school year.

Yeah, I've already received my FA package...$49,646, jeez, that just seems like so much money. I hate taking out these loans. Oh, well, I guess I have to do it. Anyways, it is sent via the azwebmail. They have a link to your specific financial package letter. Talk to you all later.

Later days,

Ryan

Yeah I about died of shock when I saw that award letter. I think I looked kind of dazed for a while because my stepdad kept asking me if I was OK. He said, "That's only for one year?" when I told him why I was walking around like a zombie. But I am getting more and more excited. Place to live, money, vacation schedule.... I gave notice of when I'd be leaving both my horrid jobs. It is a happy time

Yeah, I think I had that same dazed look, but it was definitely a load off to have it taken care of. My last day of work is this Friday. I am super stoked, because I am going to be able to surf and wakeboard a lot the next couple of weeks before I have to give it up for the next 4 years at least. Hope everyone is enjoying their summer, because it is going by super fast.

Later days,

Ryan

I agree with all of you. That's mucho dinero to borrow! Though I have been hearing to not think about the cost of medical education, that in the long run it's not going to be a huge deal. I am just glad that I will be receiving, what I believe to be, the best medical education I can receive by attending AZCOM. Hope they don't prove me wrong!!!!!!!!!!

Ryan, I second your sentiments.........the summer is flying by :( .

Ditto to the AZCOM love. The more contact I have with all the people at the school the more excited I get about attending. I think we are all going to get an excellent medical education.

Later days,

Ryan

Ok now I am freaking out because I don't have a financial aid package waiting for me on my AZWEB account...and it is too late to call. Is there anyone else with no new messages? I am going to have to wait like 12 hours to call..my last name is at the beginning of the alphabet..does that matter...I will continue my obsessing in silent mode now.

Sugar -- I'm in the same boat that you are as far as FA is concerned... I haven't heard anything either. I know of another guy that also hasn't heard anything yet. When I called the FA office about a month ago, they told me that everything was good to go, so I guess it's just a matter of time until they get to us.

Ah the voice of reason, now I can watch VIP in peace.

Does anybody watch Houston Medical? I don't know what channel its on but its pretty good. I caught it last night and I think I am hooked.

I try to catch Scrubs and Houston Medical as often as I can. That's really the only TV I watch besides tons of sports and Sportscenter    !
