hey i just tried to post this but for some reason didnt work. but if someone could help me with B v. T. I am getting conflicting info from kaplan v. EK..
Kaplan says B is involved with antibodies. bacterial infectoins and such.
and T are involved in Fungi, viruses and organ transplants rejection
EK i did a passage and they said B was invovled in Viral.. which makes sense since they do have antigens, and antibodies bind to antigens obiovusly so that made senese but kaplan said otehrwise. if someone could break immunology down for me id be REALLY apprecaitive it has alwyas ****e dme up! thnx

ramoray,

i think b-cells are involved in viruses as well. for b-lymphocytes, just know that they differentiate when activated by helper t-cells to plasma b-cells, which make free antibodies, and memory b-cells, which aid in similar attacks later on.

t-lymphocytes don't make free antibodies. t-lymphocytes differentiate into helper t-cells, memory t-cells, suppressor t-cells and killer t-cells. cell-mediated immunity is usually most effective against already infected cells.

so i think both humoral and cell-mediated immunity are involved in trying to rid the body of a virus. i think killer t-cells can puncture the virus carrying cell and plasma bcells will produce antibodies that may bind to the antigen.

does this answer your question? just a guess...i'm not a immune system wiz either...good luck on saturday!
