I am currently a senior in high school but I'm planning on becoming a colorectal surgeon. I would love to have a family but I also understand how demanding a surgical career is. Is it possible to have a baby during residency? I'd rather get pregnant earlier in life because my mom had trouble getting pregnant. I know residency programs are slowly improving in terms of being "family friendly" and by the time I am a resident (almost 10 years), programs should be even better for female surgeons who have families, right? Answers are appreciated, thanks.

Moving to hSDN

1) it is possible to have a baby during residency; many have done it before you. Most surgical residents would do it during lab/research years
2) your mother's gynecologic history has relatively little to no bearing on yours
3) there are tons of threads about this topic; I suggest you do a forum search
