What can I say? One word would probably suffice: Amazing.
Before this interview I knew nothing about the dental program at Pitt, but after attending the interview I am clearly very impressed with what the program has to offer. Surely, anyone who was there with me for the interview can agree with this. Their facilities are state of the art, and the people at the school are knowledgeable and friendly. They definitely went all out for us. The students, unlike at other schools, definitely showed a genuine interest in trying to make us feel comfortable and relaxed. Every one of them had only positive things to say about the school and the dental program.
The interview, for those who are wondering, is 1-on-1 with a faculty member. It only lasted about 15min and was very casual. Apparently the interview was an open-interview, where the interviewer had 4 days to look at the applicant's application to make notes etc. This wasn't a problem since I had reviewed my application the night before. Just a hint for those who might be interviewing there in the next batch. However, there was an applicant who I had spoke to after the interviews who mentioned that the faculty member had a set list of questions that he would ask from. Interesting, since my interview wasn't like that at all.
After the interveiw, there's a writing component. I would have thought that the topic would be an ethical/moral question but it turned out to be a interview-type question. That kind of threw me off a bit. Oh well, it didn't appear that any of the other applicants had problems with it.
In summery, it was the best interview that I've had so far. The school is located in a beautiful place. I didn't get a chance to travel around the city though, but it seemed relatively safe. This school has definitely moved up on my dental school wish list, eventhough I have interviews at other more recognized schools such as UCONN. I'm trying to keep an open mind, so I'll wait to see what the other schools have to offer. Anyways, if any of the applicants who attended the interview are reading this, best of luck in your career decisions. Maybe, we'll be classmates in the near future.
