What actually shows up on a background check? does anybody know? i don't want this to sound like a stupid question, but it has to be more than criminal convictions.

Unless you're paying cash, expect a credit history check.

As far as I know, it is only a criminal background check.

For the background check? If they have you paying for that, you're a sucker.

And misdemeaners from way back don't show up.

I imagine that this would only come up after acceptance and when you are dealing with the financial affairs office at your school.

I read a post somewhere where you could buy your own credit history check via AAMC-related source ($150). I haven't done it myself.
