Well, I just got my rejection from Chicago. Pre-interview. They put me on hold way back in September, so they must not have been all that thrilled with my application even early on. So I guess being put on hold there isn't so good.

Sorry dude, I got shafted from them long ago, actually all of chicago showed me nothing but rejection but eh we will keep pluggin along! I find it interestingly amusing how i have NO idea where ill be in like 5 months! ha good luck on rest of news!

Sorry to hear about the rejection. I have been shown no love out of the Chicago area as of yet myself. Hopefully, you will get in somewhere. Good luck.

U of Chicago?

U of Chicago-Pritzker

Mind posting your stats?

my grades and MCATs are high. I've heard Pritzker puts lots of weight on the essays in the secondary, and mine were kind of lame, so maybe that had something to do with it. I'm actually not as upset as my original post sounds because I don't think I would have spent the money on a plane ticket to interview anyways. I'm so sick of interviewing....

Sorry to hear that Desdemona, I got a Pritzker rejection this week also, pre-interview. I was bummed b/c I like Chicago, but I've got 2 other possibilities in the city so.... *crossing fingers* If that's true about the essays being important then that is probably what got me. It was the last app I did and I was so sick of writing those lame essays that I barely even tried.

Me too... Chicago was one of the schools I applied to for the second time; I was so sick of essays that by the time I got to their app, I just reused my essays from the year before (stupid, I know)

I was put on hold in late Nov; I emailed my premed advisor about the hold, and she said that it generally isn't good news;

It is official...Chicago has a playa hatin' degree and due to that fact, my playa pass got me nowhere. First, Northwestern kindly requested that I go to hell and look elsewhere if I want to wear the white coat. Oh well...Next came University of Chicago, who ever-so-nicely placed me on hold before slappin me in the face and telling me to beat it. Once again, oh well...Now, Loyola is sitting over there in Maywood (wishing it could claim Chicago zip codes), tossing my application around like a paper airplane, hoping that it will nose-dive into the cylindrical runway.

What was it that caused me to deserve such treatment? Was it my comments that the Cubs suck, and that they would be forever haunted by trading Mark Grace? Or was it when I claimed Ditka wasn't the greatest coach of all time? Maybe it was when I said "Old Style" lager was a terrible beverage? And yes, I did once (AND ONLY ONCE) say that I would take Magic over Jordan in the NBA Finals. Whatever it was that haunted me, I could care less. Now I wont be suffering from a 0 degree wind chill, south side accents, and a plethora of Abercrombie and Fitch. In a way, I am blessed. Thank you, Chicago, and peace out.

Chronic, I love your post...

I am working as an EMT for a private ambulance service in Chicago and we go all over. Today I spent an hour looking for a doctor with a patient on my stretcher for a psych consult in the U of C hospital system and was thinking "oh what a shame U of C rejected me." Everyone in that hospital was entirely lost, and everyone was telling us different directions as to where to go. I am loving the views (which can be pretty funny at times) I am getting of the different hospitals in Chicago. If anyone has questions feel free to ask.

Hey as an undergrad from the U of C. I find some things of the things said here offensive.

1. Mike Ditka is the man. He is the greatest coach ever. Just say the name. Don't tell me you don't get this little high from it.

2. We sure have a windy campus. but the girls here are more frigid. haha. jk.

3. We're not Abercombie and Bitch.. I mean Fitch. We're strictly Eddy Bauer and Ann Taylor.

4. I have yet to apply but I was wondering how do they treat their own people? Like their own undergrads? Have you heard anything?

Pritzker shot me down a few weeks ago also. I was kinda bummed. It was one of my top choices going into this whole deal, and I thought my numbers were good enough to merit an interview. But that's life I guess. I'm not too happy with the "I have no clue where I'm going in 5 months" either, but, at least I know there's about a 99% chance it won't be Chicago.

In the first year class, there are 20 that are UofC alum. Many of them (30-50%) took time off and that time span varied quite a bit [1-15 yrs 😉]

Yea, the secondaries are very big for the 'interview granting' stage. When admissions criteria were based almost exclusively on numbers and LoR's many felt that the humanism and pas experience side was being neglected. SO schools now say they are seeking these attributed. UofC puts it front and center by asking these secondary questions to illicit responses from people that have these values.
Besides that, they are also a great way to see which people just marked the school because 'they heard it was good' That said, those that genuinely want to come here can shine on these essays and be granted interviews over the 'Big Numbers' type.

-hope those that got turned away from UofC will find a school of their liking with open arms 🙂

I was looking at a time period of four years from Pritzker Brochure of schools represented in their medical school, they had 79!!! 79!!! U of C students.

Do you know Cassie? I just don't know what to think. Like I've always wondered if I shoudl apply cuz I don't have the grades. I don't know about the MCAT cuz I have yet to take it.

Freakingzooming, the only question you should ask yourself is "would I want to go there" - the reason I say this is because I applied to a pretty diverse set of schools, some which on paper I stood "no chance" at (not because of numbers but because of state residency) - and I got interviews at some of the schools I *thought* I was just throwing the application money away on, and rejected by some schools I thought were more certain bets. There are lots of things you can do to help your application but at the end of the day it all depends on who on the admissions committee looks closely at your file and their personal vibe on your statement and the balance of strengths and weaknesses. That goes for any school and is the seemingly 'random' element that gets added to admissions. So if there is a school which you would really, really like to go to, I would say apply and see what happens. Putting it on your AMCAS only costs $30. The big money only comes when you fly out to a place and by that stage (especially with schools like Pritzker which very heavily screen pre-interview) you *know* they are interested in you. Treat that $30 as taking a gamble on a dream - you never know what can happen.

i'm a u of c alum and got my ass canned by u of c earlier in the year. i thought i would get at least an interview but oh well, too friggin cold there anyway. pritzker does give preference to u of c folks but apparently not in my case. my essays were really bad if i remember correctly. pritzker cares a lot about your ec's and what u did outside of the academics. e.g., a girl in my class got in with a 28 mcat and 3.5. go figure...

cassie was my pre-med advisor. never really liked her all that much :]

I am a UofC alum also and not ugly -- just and FYI not all the girls at UC are manly or dorky or b$tchy!

I know Cassie really well and I didn't even apply to UC becuase it is way to "researchy" for me but that was my decision....To those of you who got in...CONGRATULATIONS! I think you will love the campus and the school but make sure you bring lots of layers for the winters b/c trust me it gets REAL cold.

🙂

i got the pritzker pre-interview shut-down too. and it came in what looked like a used envelope (either that or the post office just crinkled it a lot)... anyone else's like that? AND how lame was the italicised "goodmonkey" set off by commas in a lame attempt to personalize my letter. 🙄

Mine was like that too, only instead of being wrinkled, it had a stain on it. They italicized my name too. Made me feel really SPECIAL about being rejected. I have it hanging on my fridge for everyone to see. I'm stoked to be in a select pool of applicants that Pritzker deems so unworthy that they can't even use proper envelopes for when they can our asses.

I gotta disagree with shortstuff, when I interviewed there I did not see one good looking girl on campus. Not one...it was so sad. I was thanking God for the cold 'cause it kept them covered up.

I got wait-listed post-interview from Pritzker, and I am trying like hell to get in there! They have definitely gotten letters from me and emails keeping them up to date about what I've been doing and just saying basically 'hey, here's my name again!' I am a Chicago native, so I'm totally used to the weather, and I absolutely loved U of C.
Two things:
Ditka is the greatest.
MJ was the greatest until he dicked us all around for 5 years. Hmmm, professional baseball????? THE WIZARDS?????
