Been away from SDN for a while, checking in to see what's new.

As a newly board certified specialist in bariatric (obesity) medicine, I would like to suggest a subspecialty category under Physician/Resident for Bariatric/Obesity Medicine. See American Board of Obesity Medicine and the Obesity Medicine Association.
American Board of Obesity Medicine | Certifying Physicians in the Treatment of Obesity
Obesity Medicine Association - Clinical Leaders in Obesity Medicine

As someone progressing toward board certification in clinical lipidology, I would like to suggest a subspecialty category under Physician/Resident for Clinical Lipidology. See American Board of Clinical Lipidology and National Lipid Association.

National Lipid Association Online |

These would be for all of the usual purposes such as discussion of certification pathways, study strategies, patient treatment and clinical practice issues, research, etc.

Thank you

To differentiate (and allow for sorting), we could add a thread prefix to the General Surgery forum (ie: Vasc, Gen, Bariatric, etc...)

That's fair (actually there is very little in the surgery forum specific to bariatrics to merit its own label) but I believe the OP is a non-surgeon who is looking for an IM subforum.

Bariatric means pertaining to obesity. It really has nothing to do with surgery. How about not limiting it to surgery, since that's not where the specialty is headed in the future anyway? The board certification is in bariatric MEDICINE. There is no board certification in bariatric SURGERY. Thanks.

To be fair, many surgical fellowships do not have separate boards.

So I think while your point that a medical subspecialty forum is warranted is well taken, the existence of board certification is really irrelevant in my mind.

Honestly, I don't think either of them are large enough fields to necessitate their own subforums. There's a couple thousand diplomates of the American Board of Obesity Medicine and under a thousand lipidologists in the country - we have plenty of larger fields that are ABMS certified that don't have their own forum (my own included). And I say this as someone who has considered pursuing the obesity boards.

A Bariatric thread prefix has been added to the Family Medicine, IM, and Surgery forums. Please let us know if there are any other locations where it is needed.
Thank you I was still trying to figure out how to do it and hadn’t gotten around to attempting it. I appreciate you jumping in and taking care of it.
