Any Bates grads out there? Where did you or are you going to apply? Any med schools particularly friendly to our kind? I'm about to start applying to schools and thought I'd check. Holla back!

Not Bates, but Colby....take that for what its worth. I did spend four years in Waterville after all! I think med schools are very receptive to our kind, especially east coast schools. On the West coast they don't seem to know our schools! 🙂

One thing they seem to worry about is lack of research experience at small liberal arts schools, but you have obviously made up for this with what you are doing now (according to your profile). The liberal arts thing is definitely helpful at schools that emphasize well-roundedness/ possible primary care. I am not sure what your interests are. Anyhow, I am just deciding on a list of 20+ schools right now. My friends from Colby are at a wide range of places,(ie Dartmouth, UVM, UMich, Case, UNE (DO), etc). I did all of the sciences post-bac so i feel like I need to apply widely. Good luck.

Hey, good to see there are more of us out there.

Most schools look favorably upon Batsies. We aren't Ivy or Near-Ivy kids, but I think we do pretty alright anyway. I've heard that Dartmouth and UVM particularly like us, but we are pretty much on an even field with most good schools. Best of luck to you.

Hey, I do cancer research in Boston too. Imagine that.

have you decided twiceten?

Although I ain't no Bates student, I will say that med schools are very fond of us liberal art students. Every one of them wants to have a few of us in their entering classes. but like an above poster mentioned, be sure to do a good amount of research if you want any of the research-heavy schools (uchicago comes to mind) to consider you. Good luck 👍

Anyone here getting a Master at Bates? Just curious.

Comon, it was tempting.

Ahh!! Talking to all of you makes me miss that subtle Lewiston smell, the natural beauty of the androscogin, the friendliness of the local Lewistonites, the chic atmosphere of the Goose, the prostitue with two teeth trying to flag me down on Lisbon St........haha. Anyway, good to see all you Bates and Colby folks being so highly motivated post the 4-year Maine booze festival. It has personally taken me three years since graduating to get my head back on straight and decide to take the plunge into the unforgiving and icy cold waters of medical school. Any other class of 2002?

Hey Twicetenturns, when did you finish Bates and where do you work in Boston. I have a nagging feeling that we know each other.

Hrmm... well I spent my freshman year at Bates. (This thread caught my eye.) I transferred down to Emory for the rest of college though - in any case every interviewer I had this year seemed particularily interested in my time at Bates however short it may have been. Granted I got a great deal of research experience at Emory and finished my pre-med requirements there, I think my time in maine added a great deal of character to my application. Just a thought....

not at bates, but im a freshmen at bowdoin. hopefully med schools will look favorably on me when i apply. anyways im doing research in boston this summer in a neurology lab at mass general. glad to see bates grades so successful. hopefully, i can attain the same standards you mainers set in 3 years

I guess us Bates, Bowdoin and Colby people have got to stay together, even if I still have a t-shirt that says f**k Colby on it.... haha. Good luck to all of you in the upcoming year who are just begining their applications. Im so excited that I am almost finished filling out the AMCAS stuff...I know....big dork. Where are all of you going to school or where are you applying?

Ha ha! I have a Buck Fates shirt at home as well, and have definitely been known to chant "ugly chicks" and some other rediculous things at Bowdoin hockey games! (while they were chanting "mules are sterile" and "safety school" in return) Ahh Maine, I do miss it.

I was also class of 2002. I had to take the pre-recs, but i also think its good to work and get some perspective before applying! I have a long list of schools including most in the DC to Boston corridor (Baltimore, Philly, NYC, and Providence included), as well as OHSU, Dartmouth and UVM. I am going to apply to DO schools as well, as I would really like to only go through this process once.

PM if you want to play, do you know so and so? There are plenty of former Maine-uhs in Beantown (and here in DC). 🙂

okay seriously, ive been to both bates and colby for tournaments and they both have nothing against bowdoin girls in terms of looks. the girls at all three girls just look plain at best. if you want hot go check out umass amherst. lol.

anyways any bates students had nygaard for chem? he is visiting prof at bowdoin now and teaching me. great guy

And who could forget the 11:59 pm runs to Russell St. Such wonderfull meatballs they had, and pizza that was sooo bad, yet, sooo good. Kinda makes me wish I could savor that deliciousness over some old Chinese texts again. That or a good old fashioned Quality bagel sandwich.

/needs to get dinner.
