I'm sure everyone is aware of the recent homeless guy whose face was bitten off by a zombie. Well, here's another wild story...

The mother who beat her three-year-old son while allegedly high on 'bath salts' was photographed running naked through the street - moments before police used a Taser to subdue her.
Pamela McCarthy, 35, went into cardiac arrest after the struggle with state troopers outside her apartment in Munnsville, New York on Tuesday. She later died in hospital.
The shocking photograph, taken by a neighbour, shows McCarthy running towards the child as he clings to his father in fear.
Neighbours had called police at 7.45 p.m. to say the woman was punching and choking her son, attacking neighbours and strangling one of her dogs

I work at a major medical center and we have had quite a few psych admits due to "bath salts" over the last several months. I got called to figure out how to handle one guy that was flinging his C.diff infected poo all over the place (I work in infection control). It was lovely.

Looked up this stuff on wikipedia. Apparently "bath salts" are just a collection of amphetamine-like designer drugs, although I found this one interesting:

the attack on the homeless man in Miami was the first I had heard of these drugs. Does anyone know if these have been around a while and are just a new trend, or is it just beginning to be reported?

Maybe it's just me but I don't find it very respectful to associate the incident in Miami with a zombie apocalypse. It seems a little disrespectful to the victim.

I'd normally take your side, but I agree with his comment. Maybe it is because I am a ***** with a bleeding heart; but when I saw the pictures of the victim, and read his life story (apparently he went to Stuyvesant, a top high school here in Manhattan), it got just a little bit more personal.

The images of his face are terrible, and the fact that he is homeless and a "no body" doesn't mean that the physical and emotional pain didn't hurt any less.

Its cute, fun, and makes you feel cool when you discuss the "zombie apocalypse" but all shiznet aside, its a terribly sad, painful, and unfortunate story. It took me a day to mature through all of the hype and feel some legit sympathy for the man. If there was some sort of charity fund organized, I would send some money to him.

Its NOT cool to roll your eyes at someone who speaks virtue - contrary to the trend on these boards, on the news, and on facebook.

If there were meme's and jokes floating around on here of the miami victim, I would see your point.

However, this thread is not about the miami victim any more than a thread about Florida guns laws is automatically about (and disrespectful to) Trayvon Martin... This thread is about bath salt users behaving as if they were senseless creatures spurred by twisted primal instincts (i.e. "zombies"). It just so happens that the miami man was a victim of the behavior we are discussing.

This "bleeding heart", "speaking virtue" and "disrespectful" junk has no place here (at least not yet).

It was probably underlying mental illness. I doubt bath salts were a direct cause of psychosis.
