So now that the BCPS has approved Infectious Disease as a specialty, do you guys that are specialists or managers recommend getting both Pharmacotherapy and Infectious Disease to be more well rounded even though my primary interest is infectious disease? Or should I just wait and take the infectious disease test once it is offered? Thank you for your input.

What are your career goals? Looking to apply to jobs for infectious disease? Maybe wait for that exam, unless you want to change jobs before it comes out. It costs a lot of money to take these tests and maintain the certification. I wouldn't take any more than you need, and then only if it will benefit your career in a substantial way.

Do you have a link to the press release on this? I don't see it on their website. Crossing my fingers that informatics hasn't been added. The last thing I need is to spend more money and time to remain qualified for my current position.

I was debating AQ ID but wanted to wait for this to roll out. Still debating dual-cert but there's no benefit for me financially, so meh.

AQ ID will be phased out.

I would not take both exams...it isn't worth it. Board certification is a cash cow and keeping up with the CE is exhausting. If you are an ID pharmacist I would only do the ID one. There is no benefit to both.

That's the debate in my department now...a few people did the dual-cert when BCCCP was established and are debating allowing BCPS to lapse. I'm ID heavy but freely rotate between onc, and crit care (honestly I don't even think I'll meet the 50% duty requirement consistently), so I'm inclined to stand pat with plain vanilla BCPS until my work habits reflect a particular area.

This is purely a personal interest play, I don't get double board cert benefits...at this point in my career, if there's no clearly defined benefit for such a high cost, why bother?

Right if you are an ID specialist, do the ID certification. If you are not, do BCPS. There is no reason for both. It doesn't get you anywhere.

Thanks everyone for your responses. My career goal is to be an ID specialist so I think I will bypass the pharmacotherapy route like everyone else recommended and go for ID once it is available. I currently work for a small rural hospital where we do antimicrobial stewardship and could definitely qualify for the ID test because about 50% or a little more of our duties are stewardship activities.

AQ ID will be useless once the ID specialty Exam is offered ... so don't waste your time.
