Hi, I've been wondering about my future and I had a couple of questions to further my chances into getting into the Ernest Mario school of pharmacy. I am aware that it is really difficult to get in.

Question: What classes should I take as I go through high school? What GPA should I maintain? Should I do any sports?(I was varsity football as a freshman). Should I do any clubs? Any further advise would be appreciated.

Take as many AP classes as you can while maintaining a high GPA. What is high? As close to 4.0 unweighted as you can manage. If you like sports you should do them. If any club sounds interesting to you go for it. Bottom line: you don't want to do what I did, which is nothing at all. Find some extracurricular activities you are passionate about and pursue them. Don't be afraid to leave if you're not getting anything out of it. You should also get exposure to working in a pharmacy (pharm tech maybe, or volunteering in a hospital pharmacy - I did this and basically functioned as a tech).

I'll second what cheesier said. AP classes will help you out. For pharmacy, AP Chemistry is probably the most relevant class to pharmacy. However, don't let that limit your choices, as you want a diverse background of classes. Also, please don't be the kid who lives solely to study and build up a college resume. You'll only go through high school once, so enjoy it while you can. I solely worked for a newspaper through high school, which I left because I can't stand it. If you like sports, go for them. If you like a club, join it. Don't do anything solely for its look on a resume; make sure you actually enjoy what you're doing.

Just my two cents, and good luck in high school. One last piece of advice: leave your options open and explore different opportunities. I came into high school wanting to become a sportswriter, and now I'm looking towards medicine.
