Hi,

I'd like to find out which review book is best for learning organic chemistry for the MCAT from scratch? I have an old set of BR books I can get off a friend and was thinking of using them. I've heard great stuff about both BR and Hyperlearning PR for organic chemistry. Any thoughts on which will be better for me (or any other review book)?

Organic Chemistry as a Second Language. They have books for both Organic I and II. I used both of them while I took the class and they were very helpful.

Thanks a lot, I'll try getting my hands on those 2 books to supplement an MCAT review book. I had a friend recommend these as well. For MCAT review books, does anyone know if TBR or PR Hyperlearning is more ideal for learning organic chemistry from scratch? and my biology knowledge isnt that great either. I already plan to get an old set of TBR books. I'm just wondering if i should try getting the PR hyperlearning book for content review. DoesTBR organic chemistry require prior knowledge to understand?

Dude I wouldn't even get a book to learn it from scratch. Go with chad's videos for orgo. This guy is an insane teacher. I took orgo years ago, and don't remember a thing. After watching chad's videos I felt like I learned so much. I use chad's videos and EK and TBR for orgo. TBR I use basically just for details or to touch up on some weak areas, but to learn the general idea for orgo definitely use chad's videos. The guy is a Organic Chemistry savior!

I can't speak for Chad's video's, but I certainly wouldn't rely on a book to teach you orgo. You need a class or a teacher, so I'd recommend Chad or really any local orgo class (community college? anything!) over just a book.

Why are you even attempting to learn organic from scratch in the first place?

Organic chemistry is required for med school. The MCAT can wait until after you have taken all the pre-reqs.

Thanks TopTomato & mathwhiz09! Yes, a teacher would be really helpful. I could pick up a decent knowledge of physics, chem and bio from books the first time I sat the test, but I couldn't follow organic chem and gave up on it -_- I'll look into chad's videos. Really appreciate the tips.

TopTomato, I did a quick google search, can I confirm that you are talking about Chad's videos from the course saver website? Want to make sure I got the right guy 🙂

eDITN, I'm applying to Australian medical schools, most of them don't require prerequisties. Thanks for replying!

Yes, Chad's videos are the ones on the course saver website. There is an MCAT package you could purchase (with the videos + outlines + quizzes)

He is the best that there is for organic (even better than in-school classes in my opinion)

+1

This is a great introductory workbook to get more exposure to o-chem. A great buy
